This nice dog is somewhat overweight which is sometimes characteristic of people who keep a dog in the yard a lot and free-feed. She needs more exercise and interaction and a loss of a few pounds. We need an adopter or foster placement to get her back on track. If I am already spayed or neutered, I can go home with you upon adoption. My adoption cost is very affordable and includes my adoption fee, spay/neuter, vaccinations, deworming, license (if you live within Huntsville city limits), a collar and personalized ID tag. Please know that a high percentage of animals in the shelter are brought in as strays.     Buttons is a lovely beagle mix who is patiently and hopefully waiting for someone to come get her. She pleads with her eyes for someone to notice her, but never makes a fuss to get attention. Phone is: (256) 890-1234. 'Pit bull mixes': Pit bull mixes get a bad rap. First of all, the American Pit bull was historically a dog that was intelligent, loyal and trusted. It was often used to oversee children while they played. Remember Petey? Then, as other breeds gained popularity, usually for their designer conformation ('attractiveness'), the pit bull fell by the wayside and eventually was bred with other breeds for fighting and aggressiveness and their inherent trustworthiness was overshadowed. The American pit bull is different from other bull dog breeds and yet they are typically lumped together. Many are actually American bulldogs, American Staffordshire terriers, boxer mixes, etc. And what percentage of pit bull traits gets a dog declared to be pit bull over whatever other breed he might be mixed with? But more importantly, the pit bull is more typically sweet natured and friendly when trained and socialized correctly. Please do not be turned off if a dog that appeals to you is labeled 'pit bull mix'. Come meet it. You will probably be pleasantly surprised and may consider adopting one of the most difficult dogs to find a home for, due to no fault of its own. Whatever dog you bring in to the family, all of the people need to be the pack leaders, whether adults or children. Follow this rule from day one, and no matter what dog you adopt, you'll be working to ensure an enjoyable experience. Pit mixes are typically strong and focused and will require regular exercise. A 'power breed waiver' may be required stating that you acknowledge that this dog will be strong and/or large and may need appropriate train (Less)

Beagle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Clyde and his sister were dropped on the side of the road. Neighbors in the area said they were extremely friendly and mostly stayed in the same spot everyday (assuming they were waiting on their owner to come back for them). He is so sweet and loves to cuddle. He will absolutely steal your heart when you meet him! Unfortunately I need to find a home for him and his sister ASAP! I have a large breed dog in my apartment that does not get along well with others and I am having a hard time keeping them separate. Clyde would make such a great member to any family!

Bonnie and her brother were dropped on the side of the road and according to neighbors they had been wondering the streets for over a week when I found them. People reported they were extremely friendly and stayed around the same area everyday (assuming they were waiting on their owners to come back for them). She has a ton of personality and loves to give and receive affection! She is a little timid at first but warms up to you very quickly if you offer her the slightest bit of attention. She is such a sweetheart and would make the perfect family dog!

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Abe is one of 3 hound mixes that were saved from the shelter. Abe is a sweet boy who needs someone to show him how to be a pet. In his previous situation, he was not given TLC or showered with love as he should have. Because of this, he can appear to be very shy and reserved. He is slowly coming out of his shell and starting to show some personality. Abe would be a wonderful pet for a family. We anticipate that Abe is gonna shine very soon. He is UTD on vaccs, neutered and HW neg. Could you be that family to show Abe what its like to be a pet and be part of a family

Beagle Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We found Buddy on our street and he had been hit by a car. we took him to the vet and we nursed him back to health and updated his vaccinations. We think he may have some tooth decay, which we suspect may be from being homeless. He liked to chew rocks and was very malnourished when we found him. Other than that he seems very healthy.Although we never planned on keeping him, he has been with us for over a year. We have been a little picky about who he goes to, because truth is we love the little guy. He is so sweet, and we suspect he has had a hard life. But we have 3 dogs already in a 1500 square foot home. We just cannot keep him, but ... (Read More)won't stop until we find a kind person to take him. I think he would be good for an older couple, or even a family with children. He would love being the only dog and getting all the attention! lol. He is grateful for any attention shown to him, and just really craves love. A fenced yard is a must. He is potty trained. We have a doggy door and he comes and goes at his leisure. The vet gauged his age at 5-7 years. He is good with our other dogs (2 male, one female)and good with our grandchildren, ages 4 years-10 months. He is good with our cat,but wasn't at first. He wanted to chase him, but they are fine now. If you have a loving heart and home, please consider buddy for your companion.     Kind-hearted Kate may not be a duchess or future queen of England, but she is royalty in our eyes. With her beautiful tan and white pinto coloring she certainly makes our 'best dressed' list. Kate came to us as a new mom with a few puppies, whom she was very nurturing to. We would love to adopt Kate out to a devoted family, couple, or individual with time to dote on this sweet girl and shower her with the love she gives to us people at the shelter and her fur-friends. Kate will be spayed before adoption, is UTD on all her shots, is between 4 and 5 years old, and has coloring like a Brittany Spaniel and is shaped a bite like a Beagle. Kate is ...     Pretty as a picture, Pinto lives up to the origin of her name, which means 'painted' in Spanish. We for one are glad our Pinto is the real thing and not just a painting because she is a precious girl. A 3 year old ray of sunshine in a fairly compact little body, Pinto gets along with dogs-both boy and girl fur-friends. Will you and/or your family be the one to adopt this dazzling girl, our prized Pinto? She is available at Second Chance Shelter in Boaz for $30.

Rescue Me ID: 13-08-23-00167Tasha (female)

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Pretty little Tasha is a 3 year old, spayed Beagle mix. She weighs 30 lbs and is up to date on shots. She tested a very light positive for heartworms, but it is easily treatable with Heartguard twice a month. She has been on treatment since January. Tasha would be a perfect little girl for a retired couple - she is the perfect size for an RV or an apartment! Tasha would be happiest in a quiet family with no other dogs because she has had a rough life and feels very vulnerable, especially with loud noises. She loves cats, leash walks, and lying by her person's side. She is house and crate trained.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in Alabama
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in Alabama if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
