Rescue Me ID: 15-02-13-00333Beaux (male)

Beagle    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

Beaux is a very loving dog. We got him from a soldier whose wife had not taken very good care of the dog, and then she had left him. We've had him almost 3 years. We were told he is pure bred, and was up to date on shots at the time we got him, and that he was almost 2 yrs old at the time we got him which would put him around 5 years. He is so very loving, and it breaks our heart to even consider giving him a new home. His coat is like satin with very little care involved...just so very soft and smooth. He cuddles, is lazy, is a fat beagle, and likes to try to sleep with the kids. He is GREAT with kids and other animals. Okay downside. ... (Read More)Barking. Lots of it at anybody new. But he is fine shortly thereafter. He knows better than to pee in the house, but jealousy issues arise. If others are over at our home, he typically gets jealous and does something like pee in the middle of the living room. :) He whines/whimpers a lot too. He was not and is not kennel trained. We can usually trust him to roam free in the house. He has only every chewed up maybe 2 items in 3 years. Our children are getting older and not being able to provide the love he deserves, we don't have a fenced yard and CANNOT trust him not to run off. He will come back, but not before barking/whining/annoying/eating trash for all the neighbors. He needs a yard to run free, someone at home for attention and love, and lots of cuddles. We do love Beaux so much, but he isn't getting what he deserves, and we cannot continue with the jealous peeing in a house we rent. It comes and goes those phases for him. After one of his adventures out, he came back with a red eye which we are told is 'cherry eye'. It doesn't bother him at all, doesn't look too bad, but we would love to have it fixed and just can't afford it. I have found out it is around $500 to fix. His food/digestive habits could not be more normal. Very very easy dog there and easy poo to pick up! In 3 years, we've never had new shots or taken him to a vet. He's never been sick, never not had a perfect poop unless he gets into the trash, and again has a coat of satin. This is hard. I still am unsure as to if we can give him up even if we are contacted! We will certainly be very discerning with whomever we choose. 3 older teenagers, and they all know Beaux deserves more TLC, but for my son especially it will be hard. If we had a big yard and further away neighbors, a place out farther where he could bark and run free, we would never ever consider this. Please only inquire if you have a TRUE love for dogs and want to give Beaux the home I describe. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in Alaska
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in Alaska if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
