She is very smart and spent two weeks at dog school learning her basic commands, although we're still working on overcoming all that puppy energy! She is crate-trained and house-trained.

Beagle Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable young dog. They're new and fresh with every possibility open to them. That's the case unless they're in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space. We're so grateful for the efforts of our New Mexico rescuer in saving Miles...she could see that he was a kind being that had been terribly mistreated and in so much pain. Miles was found as a stray on the streets of an impoverished area of new Mexico. As a Pug/Beagle mix (Puggle) Miles was a desirable dog to breed for puppies that they can sell or exchange for food. Often when it's time for these small-scale breeders to ... (Read More)move on, they dump their dogs. Miles may very well have been a victim of this behavior. When dogs are found on the streets by animal control officers (depending on the morality of the officer) they can be treated very aggressively..often with a catch pole. Sadly, Miles was found by an officer at the end of the day..and clearly at the end of the officer's ability to control himself. Miles was thrown against the side of the truck, resulting in a very painful crushed pelvis & femur head. Miles was then brought to the shelter and due to a complete lack of budget, was forced to endure his pain until he received surgery in Denver. UPDATE: Miles has had a very successful surgery and is completing his rehab period. Now out of pain, Miles is a very happy guy who is blossoming and becoming more active every day. He has so much love to give and has a very close and loving relationship with his foster. Miles is a beautiful Puggle (with a very sweet soul) that finally deserves the love and compassion that has been lacking in his short life. At 12 - 18 months old and just about 18 lbs, Miles will heal from his surgery and be an excellent choice for a family that desires a loyal and loving best friend. Farfel's is seeking a very nurturing and Pug-loving family to welcome Miles into their home and hearts. They will love and understand dogs well enough to offer Miles the time and space to heal (both physically and emotionally). Through this healing (and bonding) period, Miles will come to understand that he's a very lovable and respected guy with so much to offer a family (or individual). Miles will learn to trust and to understand that he has entered into a new period of his life...one of care and respect. Because he's a dog that desperately wants to trust and bond with a family, he will respond with loving loyalty to his treasured people. We're hoping to find a family for Miles that is searching for a full-time best friend. Together they will grow to be each other's trusted companion. Miles would be overjoyed with hiking along Colorado paths. At day's end, Miles is the guy that will cuddle on your lap or close on the couch/bed to show his loyalty and devotion. We'd like a family who spends lots of time at home and chooses to include an awesome fuzzy companion in their activities. Miles can be taught that the car is a fun place that leads to great adventures out in the community and can therefore accompany his family just about anywhere a well-behaved dog is welcome. Miles will be a gift to anyone who is seeking a really cute fuzzy guy as a best friend and family member. Positive reinforcement group training classes are a gift to a dog as well as their family. It's a true bonding experience that results in a respectful relationship where the dog views their human as their leader. Miles will learn his commands and behaviors that are necessary for a dog to be welcome out in the world. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of positive reinforcement (force free) trainers in your area. Miles has the stunning beige coat (so soft that you just want to pet him all the time) that's consistent with his breeds. He will require a commitment to periodic sudsy baths and brushing combined with great nutrition (a daily salmon oil supplement is so important for lifelong health and coat care) to keep Miles coat healthy and silky-soft. Miles won't be neutered when he arrives in Denver - while we request it, there just aren't enough vets to cover the needs of the vast number of homeless dogs in this industrial area of New Mexico. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Miles neuter and microchip after his arrival in Denver if our local vet is used. Miles is in a foster home in the Denver area. We're currently accepting applications for this beautiful and very sweet best friend. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If you're interested in this extremely sweet, cuddly and fun-loving best friend, please fill out our application and submit. PLEASE NOTE: If you're truly interested in adopting Miles, please be sure to submit our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most cases we're unable to get back without a completed app. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-12-04-00463Toby (male)

Beagle Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

No, Toby is no Dalmatian, but Toby needs a home just the same. He appears to be a cross between a beagle and a wired haired breed, maybe Jack Russell? In the fall of 2016, Toby's mom's health began to fail severely and he could no longer stay with her. In early January, his mom passed away and one of her last requests was that Toby find a fabulous forever home and we want very much to fulfill that final wish. Toby had been a great companion for his mom and did live with cats and dogs in the past. Today, Toby is in Centennial where he goes to the dog park most days and romps with a cute little Dalmatian in his foster home. He loves attention, ... (Read More)is good in the house, uses the dog door and will sleep in a crate but he doesn't figure he needs to. And he likes car rides too. Toby has been adopted before but it was not a good fit for him. He needs patience and understanding or he can become defensive. For more information, contact Tori at Torystori@gmail.com. Rescue Me ID: 17-05-23-00084Betty (female)

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adult Women Only
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Betty (previously named Lady April) is a dear, sweet little dog who just wants to be loved by her person. She loves to snuggle and love on her human and play with her toys. Once she warms up to people when they are introduced properly, she accepts them. She will play sometimes, but she is so focused on her owner, that nothing else exists. She is quite fearful of men, so any male in the home will have to go super slow with her and allow her time (she will bark and maybe growl a little) to get to know them and trust. She may still not fully trust a man after many months even, so potential adopters should be aware of this. Betty tries to ... (Read More)be possessive of her owner and will bark at anyone that comes near so they know that. A slight 'oopsie' correction usually will stop her barking. Her personality has come out in a short amount of time. She doesn't mind the crate but does like to sleep in the big bed with her person. She weighs 10#, is approx 3 y/o, and loves to cuddle. She can really wag that tail when she's happy! She is reliably house trained and lets you know when she has to go potty. She is very quiet aside from the occasional grunt/growl at unusual things but that should cease as she becomes more familiar and confident. She likes other dogs and enjoys running and playing with them, just not sharing her person with them. She has a slight luxating patella which doesn't seem to bother her because she LOVES going for walkies. Her new owner must commit to walking Betty a couple times per day. We require an application, home and reference check and a met and greet with current pets and/or children in the home. Betty is being fostered in Littleton, CO. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in Colorado
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
