Rescue Me ID: 15-08-17-00431Dewey (male)

Beagle    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

This is Dewey. He's just about 8 years old. He's overweight. I'd say a little but I'm not sure how much. He's been neutered for 4 years thats when his weight gain started. This photo is from 4 years ago so he has more grey around his face and body now and is bigger (fatter). I've had him his whole life. My husband is Active Duty Air Force and we just received orders to Japan. I fear that Dewey wouldn't be able to survive the trip and we are only able to take 2 animals which we have 2 going already. Dewey has not gotten all the attention he needs since we have had more kids. He would be great as a single dog, but he has never been one. He ... (Read More)shares a kennel with our lab because when he's kenneled alone he gets nervous and tries to break out. He also needs a FENCED in yard and he does try to escape. He hasn't done it in awhile but I wouldn't put it past him in a new place. I prefer he go to someone who will keep him and give him the love he needs for the remainder of his life. It truly breaks my heart to have to give him away. He's been my baby for so many years. We don't have much money with the move coming up shortly so I have been unable to get him into the vet. I have noticed as he's gotten older his hips get sore when he sits or lays for too long. He's very loving. If he goes to a home as a single dog I do not advise kenneling him alone. He has separation anxiety that has gotten better as he's gotten older but I don't trust that he'd be 100% okay alone in a kennel. My dogs are currently primarily outdoor dogs but only because they prefer it that way. They come in quite often during the day and he would be fine either way. He's a purebred beagle but I do not have his papers. My grandparents had them but misplaced them in their move a few years ago. We move in March, and I haven't had any luck finding a home for him. He's a sweetheart, just older and no one wants an older dog. I do NOT want to take him to the shelter in town here as they are a kill shelter. Honestly, it really kills me that I can't take him but its a 15 hour flight and he does get stressed easily in situations like that. He is not currently up to date on his shots (which I know is irresponsible) and I realize I'm selfish for keeping him when we didn't have the means to take care of him medically and all that. But he's family. I just hope someone sees him, falls in love like I did 8 years ago and will let him live out his life in a happy place feeling loved. Please contact me if you can help or would be willing to adopt him. Thank you. (Less)

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Very High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered

Decker is very high strung 2-3 year old chihuahua/beagle cross. He is not neutered. He doesn't like new people and he needs a lot of training. He's bitten my husband in the past, but usually he just growls as a warning and won't actually bite. He needs someone with the time, energy and most of all compassion to help him be the best he can be.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in Idaho
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in Idaho if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
