Lance - Arriving Soon - Taking Applications Now! Lance - Beagle/Jack Russel mix, about 30 lbs. Is said to be sweet and loving and gets along great with other dogs! He is available for our Foster to Adopt program. This program allows you to be the family that greets him when he arrives in Illinois. Foster to Adopt families have the first option to adopt if you determine this is the pup right for you! While you foster, we pay all expenses from vetting, to food and we provide a crate, leash, collars, and toys. Your family provides love (something he desperately needs!) and a safe place to lay his head until he finds his forever home. We ... (Read More)also require that you have the ability to take him to routine veterinary visits at our participating vets. These vets are located in Wheaton, Naperville, and Elmhurst. Spay/Neuters are done in North Aurora. Fostering is the most life giving thing you can do for a dog or puppy! It is a very rewarding experience that will make a huge impact on their life. By becoming a foster you are saving 2 lives - the animal you bring into your home while he or she waits to be adopted, and the animal who gets to take your foster's place in the shelter. Please email safehavendogs@yahoo.com for a foster application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed.     Meet Pass! Male - About 12 weeks old Possibly Beage/Hound/Cattle Dog Pass was abandoned with his 3 siblings in a kill shelter in Tennessee. This shelter has very dedicated volunteers that network their dogs to find rescue. We took one look and knew that we needed to bring them to Illinois to find their forever families. They are all young and will need a family that is willing to love, housebreak and train them. We believe these pups may have some cattle dog in them so, previous experience with a herding breed and/or previous puppy experience is a plus! Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spay/neutered within 30 days ... (Read More)of adoption. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies, we do not permit out of state adoptions of unaltered dogs or puppies. Puppies have special needs and require a home where there will be someone available to care for, socialize, and train them during the day. If your family is away from the home for several hours at a time, please consider adopting a 'teen' or adult dog. Standard adoption fee is $295 (cash or check) and includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, up-to-date on shots, fecal, deworming, frontline, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance. I am super excited to find my furever home .....could that be you? . Please email TheFirstStepRescue@sbcglobal.net with any question or for further information . I am an owner surrender and in a temp foster home till my actual foster home comes home from vacation. If you want to meet me that is awesome but I am waiting on getting my vetting done. I was just in heat and waiting on my spay and vaccinations but that doesn't mean I can't meet my furever family. More info will be posted about em soon.. . May 31st 2015 I made it I am finally fully vetted and in my second foster home and ready to find my furever home. I am a puppy and do all kinds of puppy things so I need someone who understands puppies are energetic and love to play. I am also a Beagle and we are a slightly active breed that does need exercise and we do like to run so someone with a fenced yard would be awesome but not a requirement. I LOVE kids and am so very gentle with them and would be a perfect addition to a family with children. I get along great with dogs in both of my foster homes of all ages with no issues but I am young sooo keep that in mind. I was in my first foster home with cats but will need to find out what contact I had with them. I am still working on my potty training,, my first family really didn't work on it with me. I was doing great in my first foster home with some work but I have had some accidents in my new foster home. This could be new surrounding issues and nerves but my new foster home will be working on this with me. (Less)

Please Share '| Sheboygan, Wisconsin - Foster/Adopt Sam the Dog-Friendly Senior Beagle Sam is a very sweet, calm, snuggly and loving, 11-year-old, 30-pound, male, tri-color Beagle looking for a loving guardian. Sam is great with other small and medium-sized dogs but does some fear-growling with large dogs, and even though he's good with cats; he appears to be allergic to them. He's a happy boy who will dance for treats. Typical of a Beagle, he can sniff out a treat from across the room. Sam is good in the house, on walks and in the car. Sam was brought to Chicago from Mercer County, West Virginia, when his human died. He was on the ... (Read More)euthanasia list at the local shelter. Sam is neutered, micro-chipped, up-to-date on vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm-tested and on monthly preventative. He does have chronic bronchitis and has occasional flare-ups. Personality: Very Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

All Max wants for Christmas is a real home who will love and care for him forever! Max was dumped with his mom and sister on a rural road and then in a no kill very rural shelter for a year with no socializing. He is very shy of strangers, better in a home without children not because he's bad but because he wouldn't know how to act around them and could react fearfully. Once he adjusted to being handled he was very easy to handle. We have been so busy with 29 other dogs we have not leash trained, or crate trained him yet. He tends to bark at things when he sees something out of the ordinary. Quite when crated the few times we have had him ... (Read More)crated. He is current on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. He was heartworm negative when tested last year and has been on preventative. He's good with the 2 female dogs he is kenneled with but will be bossy with them if he can get away with it. He is very dominant with male dogs. he really doesn't know any commands but would love someone who would like to teach him some fun tricks, and that there are other great people out there besides us. He is now almost 2 years old and weighs about 30 pounds. He would like a quite home that he can bond with someone and not have a lot of change happening. He adjusted to us and loves attention, but will require a lot of time to trust a new person. He is well worth the effort, as he will be a very devoted friend for life. Vet's phone number you use currently or in the past is required to adopt for a reference. We have 30 rescued dogs of all sizes all praying for a real home! Please do not consider a dog for Christmas unless you want a dog as a family member for its whole life. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in Illinois
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
