Rescue Me ID: 16-08-25-00173Callee (female)

Beagle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Callee is an affectionate, silly girl full of love!! Upon first meeting, she may be shy, but given some time and love, she will come running right into your arms! She loves to snuggle and enjoys playing with her foster brother. She may be tiny, but she is tough! She has fun keeping up with his running and wrestling skills. It would be great if she could live in a home with another small-medium sized dog who loves to play. Callee has mastered some basic commands such as sit, (lay) down, and come when called. Her leash walking skills have improved tremendously. She has proven to be an angel, when not crated, and has the run of the house. ... (Read More)Currently, she doesn't have any accidents in the house and can be left alone for up to 5 hrs. When meeting new dogs, she is cautious and timid, especially the bigger dogs. When given time to adjust, she begins to relax and while she will not play with the big dogs, she will slowly interact with them. She has not had much exposure to her feline friends, but when she has been around them, she let them go about their business and just watched them. Since she loves to play and explore outside, a fenced in yard is highly recommended. Since she is a happy little girl, Callee can get overly excited and will jump. Her foster mom is working on this, but for this reason, it would be recommended that Callee goes into a home without young children. If you are interested in meeting Callee, please go to our website www.alwaysroom4morepaws.com to learn about our adoption process and fill out an application. (Less)

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

ABOUT COPPER Meet handsome Copper. He is a beagle mix born on February 6, 2015. Copper is extremely lovable and sweet. He has an average energy level for a dog his age and can be calmed down with a rubbing of his belly. He is a medium size dog, but that doesn't stop him from crawling into a lap to snuggle. He currently lives in a foster home with cats, and although they tend to stay away from him, when he does see them he will chase after them. This social butterfly is also fantastic around children. A fence is recommended so that Copper can run freely. Although he can't jump a standard yard fence, he is able to jump a baby/pet gate in the ... (Read More)house. He hasn't been on a leash much in his previous life and is very unfamiliar with this practice. He does go for walks at his foster home and is starting to understand the purpose of a leash.     Casey is a very loving dog. Gets very attached to his caretaker and shows much love to them. He is Good with children and adults. The animal behaviorist considers Casey to be 'animal reactive' not aggressive. He has been with my mother in law who has entered into a nursing facility. He's a smart dog and quick to train but has anxiety/separation in new environments. He would do well in a home with no other animals and with someone who is at home with him the majority of the day. Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

If you're on the hunt for a great dog, hunt no longer - Maxwell is here at ACL! Maxwell is a handsome Beagle/Treeing Walker Coonhound mix who's everything we love about both breeds. He's a gentle, mellow, affectionate guy who his quite confident and sure of himself. Maxwell had a difficult start - he was rescued by a Good Samaritan who witnessed his owner abandoning him and his canine and feline housemates while being evicted. Maxwell was flea-ridden, frightened, and shut down, but with only a few minutes of attention, he bloomed. Maxwell is somewhat traumatized from his previous life, and that has led him to be reactive to other dogs while ... (Read More)here at the shelter. He'll need to be an only dog, at least until his adopters can spend some time acclimating him to other animals again. Maxwell is most definitely a working dog - hounds need stuff to do, and they always follow their nose. He's also quite the stubborn gentleman who's not used to being told what to do, so dog experience is necessary to work with this headstrong fellow. He'd prefer a home that wants to take him for lots of walks and is home a lot to spend time with him - Beagles are pack dogs, and they don't do well for long periods alone. He'd do best in an adult home. Please email Gabrielle at caninemanager@animalcareleague.org to meet this lovable dude in person. (Less)

Meet Charming Charlie, whos eyes will melt your heart! He is a handsome beagle mix, guessed to be 5-6 yrs old, even though his coloring makes him look older. Being one of the lucky ones, he was rescued from Kentucky, where life and humans were not good to him. Being in a foster home where he is being nurtured, he is learning what love is all about. Still a little hand shy, and slow to trust, he has come a long way trusting his humans. He is enjoying being part of a pack in his foster home and is doing great with all size dogs. Since he is more laid back, he prefers dogs that don't play too rough. He will do fine in a home with children, ... (Read More)but small children's quick motions may startle him. Some of his favorite things are lying on soft beds, couches, going for walks, and I love car rides calling 'shotgun'! and time in the yard. Beagle Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

My husband and I adopted Maggie about a month ago. When we got her not only was she recovering from being thrown out of a car, but she also had kennel cough, worms and a parasite. We took her to the vet right away and she is now worm and parasite free. The kennel cough is also gone and her scar is 95% healed. She is great with other dogs, loves people and kids. We fell in love with her and decided to keep her until we took her to the Vet last night. It turns out she has cushing's disease. For those of you who don't know what this is it makes dogs constantly thirsty and makes them urinate more frequently. There is medicine for this condition, ... (Read More)which apparently helps the dogs greatly. However, this medicine can run anywhere from $100-$200 a month. Under normal circumstances Nick and I would take on this additional expense, however because of our current situation we cannot afford this expense right now. In addition, we live in a condo on the 3rd floor. This makes it's harder to take her out more frequently. (which again with the medicine would decrease) We really do not want to bring her back to a shelter. We are going to try and keep her for however long it takes for us to find her a good home. Again, if there is someone who is willing to pay this expense every month, Cushing's disease is very manageable. She really is a great dog and this breaks my heart writing this message. (Less)

Daisy is a joyous, playful and friendly, eight-year-old, 39-pound, female Beagle / Basset Hound-mix looking for a loving guardian. This girl loves to go on walks and car rides, knows the command sit, crate-trained and housebroken when kept on a very frequent schedule. She gets along with other dogs and people of all ages - she loves children, but she is way too interested in cats and other small creatures; she's quite the hunter! She's active and fun; Daisy loves to chase a ball, and sometimes she'll even retrieve. Daisy had breast cancer surgery in February and was spayed. She never skipped a beat and was full of tail wags and kisses the ... (Read More)moment she came home. She is healthy, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, fecal and heartworm-tested and on monthly preventative. To meet and possibly foster and/or adopt Daisy, please contact Sheri directly at sheri@petraits.com or 773-777-2891. She is currently being fostered in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood. Her adoption fee of $225 benefits rescued pets. She probably would do best in a house, versus an apartment because she is a hound with quite the howl. (Less)

Meet Liza!! Approx. 4 months old Just look at those perky ears!!! Liza is an energetic puppy with an adventurous spirit. She currently weighs about 17 lbs. and we think she'll be a nice medium/large sized dog whens she's full grown. She is crate trained and sleeps well through the night. Liza is great with other dogs but she can be a bit rough with the cats in her foster home. She is almost house broken and has only chewed on her toys and bones. She will keep herself entertained for hours with chewing on her toys and bones. She is on the shy side but warms up quickly and loves attention from her humans. She is a very happy girl and ... (Read More)would do great in a home with other dogs and children! Since Liza is still young, she would do best with a family who has someone home most of the day to continue to work on puppy socialization and training skills. Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spay/neutered within 30 days of adoption. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies, we do not permit out of state adoptions of unaltered dogs or puppies. Puppies have special needs and require a home where there will be someone available to care for, socialize, and train them during the day. If your family is away from the home for several hours at a time, please consider adopting a 'teen' or adult dog. Our standard adoption fee is $295 cash or check and $300 credit card ($5 processing fee). It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email safehavendogsIL@yahoo.com for an application or additional details. PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in Illinois
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
