Rescue Me ID: 16-12-02-00127Claire & Tulip (female)

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Claire and Tulip! Both Approx. 1-2 yrs old Claire- 30 lbs. Feist/Terrier Mix Tulip- 15 lbs. Beagle Mix Looking for a PATIENT family to give these 2 beauties a SECOND CHANCE! The old saying 'Opposites Attract' couldn't be more true in the case of Claire and Tulip! These southern bells have had very difficult pasts, before coming to rescue. They were both dealt difficult hands in life and they're hoping someone will give them a second chance. Now they find themselves in the same foster home and have grown to become best friends. Though they are both very different, they each have something that the other needs, and together, they ... (Read More)compliment each other very nicely. They will make the perfect duo for a family looking for a little bit of everything! Claire has a bold and friendly personality. She loves all people that she meets and is always willing to get some pets from whoever will supply them. She struggles with meeting new canine friends though, and is always 'on guard' when she is around dogs she doesn't know. She is currently living with 4 other small dogs and would like to be an alpha female in her new living situation. Tulip is her best friend, they play nicely together, snuggle at night, and Tulip is just fine letting Claire be in charge! Claire has an instinctual high prey drive and would not do well with small animals, cats, or birds in her new home. She loves to chew on bones and toys (she doesn't chew on things she shouldn't) and has never met a toy she's not willing to unstuff! Once you see the pure joy it brings her, you won't mind cleaning up the fluff on the floor! In high stress situations, Claire has lashed out at other dogs and has bitten. For this reason, we strongly recommend she go to a home with a family that has prior dog experience. Claire has never shown any aggression towards humans. Claire is a very smart dog and would benefit from having a job or being enrolled in a training program. We have had Claire evaluated and it is deemed that she is highly trainable, she just needs someone willing to give her that chance. She walks well on a harness and leash. Claire has some issues she needs to work through, but we know she's a great dog and we're hoping someone will see that and give her that second chance! Tulip has a very timid and fearful nature. She has been through many unfortunate experiences in her short life and this has caused her to struggle with trust. Claire gives Tulip the confidence to try new things and begin to trust. If given patience and time, Tulip will learn to have faith in her human friends too and she then becomes quite snuggly and loving. Tulip will need to be watched carefully and always walked with a secure harness, as she is a good escape artist and very difficult to catch! Tulip loves all dogs she meets. She is the perfect size for snuggling on the couch or in bed. She loves to play with toys and play tug with Claire. Tulip can sometimes find things around the house to play with that she should not, but she is easily redirected. Though she is slow to trust and become comfortable, if you give Tulip the time she needs to come out of her shell you'll be rewarded with a sweet and loving little girl. Claire makes a fantastic running partner and Tulip will tag along as well once she gets comfortable. Both girls would do well with a fenced in yard where they can run and play together, but will always need to be monitored while outside. Both Claire and Tulip have excellent indoor house behaviors. They are both crate trained and housebroken. Tulip needs to go out slightly more often and would do well with someone who is home part of the day. Neither girl has been around small children and we feel they would do best with a quiet family with older children. Since these two unlikely friends get along so well, we'd like to try to find them a family where they can stay together and give each other reassurance and love to make transitioning to a new home and family easy for all involved! Claire & Tulip will ONLY be adopted out together, not separately. Please contact the rescue for adoption pricing on this duo! It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email safehavendogsIL@yahoo.com for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Please consider becoming a foster home while you search for your new best friend. We need foster homes - pounds are overflowing with puppies and adult dogs that are at-risk and need help. We can only rescue as many as we have foster home commitments. Fostering is a rewarding experience for your family. (Less)

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Puppy

DOB 4/14/16 Calling all big dog lover families! I'm Harley, a big boy already weighing in at 41 lbs. Everyone who meets me says I have the most adorable ears, they have ever seen! I was rescued from Kentucky, after being dumped at a high kill shelter. My breed guess is Lab/Hound Mix, maybe some Basset since my siblings have very short legs. My foster mom is always laughing at me, since I have these long legs, and at that clumsy stage. Being a big goofball, I still think I am a lap dog and LOVE attention from everyone. Always being up for playing with a ball or a game of fetch, I would love a active family that likes to play. My ... (Read More)foster mom says I am really smart and catches on to training quickly. Since I already knowing 'sit', 'off' and 'no', housebroken currently without any accidents, I agree! I have mastered walking on a leash, and would make a great walking companion. I am a typical active puppy, and would really enjoy another playful dog in my new home. Running around the fenced in backyard, with my sister, foster siblings, and neighbor kids, is one of her favorite things to do. I will need someone home most of the day to continue my training and socialization. Rescue Me ID: 16-08-25-00173Callee (female)

Beagle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Callee is an affectionate, silly girl full of love!! Upon first meeting, she may be shy, but given some time and love, she will come running right into your arms! She loves to snuggle and enjoys playing with her foster brother. She may be tiny, but she is tough! She has fun keeping up with his running and wrestling skills. It would be great if she could live in a home with another small-medium sized dog who loves to play. Callee has mastered some basic commands such as sit, (lay) down, and come when called. Her leash walking skills have improved tremendously. She has proven to be an angel, when not crated, and has the run of the house. ... (Read More)Currently, she doesn't have any accidents in the house and can be left alone for up to 5 hrs. When meeting new dogs, she is cautious and timid, especially the bigger dogs. When given time to adjust, she begins to relax and while she will not play with the big dogs, she will slowly interact with them. She has not had much exposure to her feline friends, but when she has been around them, she let them go about their business and just watched them. Since she loves to play and explore outside, a fenced in yard is highly recommended. Since she is a happy little girl, Callee can get overly excited and will jump. Her foster mom is working on this, but for this reason, it would be recommended that Callee goes into a home without young children. If you are interested in meeting Callee, please go to our website www.alwaysroom4morepaws.com to learn about our adoption process and fill out an application. (Less)

Animal ID: 2985Betsy (female)

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Betsy a Boxer, Beagle and Border Collie Mix. She is a sweet 2 year old girl about 54lbs. Our family has fallen in love with her and can't believe no one has snapped her up. She gets along great with all of our Extra large dogs and my mothers extra large female dogs. She is house broken, never had an accident in our home, never chewed on anything and uses our dog door. She is crate trained and rides well in our car. We have a 9 year old daughter that loves to play with Betsy and our 12 year old boys also loves her. She does have alot of energy but with a few walks a day and just sometime to play fetch with her she is content. She does ... (Read More)stand on her hind legs and has alot of traits I see in border collies. She does not bark alot, I have not noticed that at all! She will need work on no pulling when walking her, but she will learn. She greets dogs better off leash, and she is good with small dogs if they are on the ground. She plays but settles down when needed and loves to snuggle. I feel she would do better with someone who has already had dogs before unless they are energetic people that want a dog to enjoy life with. She really has been an easy foster and deserves a home of her own! (Less)

Beagle Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Casey is a very loving dog. Gets very attached to his caretaker and shows much love to them. He is Good with children and adults. The animal behaviorist considers Casey to be 'animal reactive' not aggressive. He has been with my mother in law who has entered into a nursing facility. He's a smart dog and quick to train but has anxiety/separation in new environments. He would do well in a home with no other animals and with someone who is at home with him the majority of the day. He does not do well being confined to a crate but is okay with being gated in an open environment.

Health: Neutered

Mr. Puggles is an 8 year old Pug and Beagle cross. Mr. Puggles' owner unfortunately suffered from dementia and went into assisted living. Mr. Puggles and his friend Toby remained in their owner's house for several months all by themselves. They were taken care of by a pet sitter while people tried to find new homes for them. Toby was adopted and Mr. Puggles is being fostered by a H.E.L.P. volunteer. Because of his owner's dementia, he was over fed for a long time before anyone realized what was happening. He has been losing weight but has about 10 more pounds to lose. Mr. P. is very low maintenance. He likes to go for walks, car ... (Read More)rides, going to the dog park. He is friendly with dogs and people. He is not at all aggressive. Mr. P does have some separation anxiety which is understandable given his situation, but he is not destructive. Mr. Puggles is playful and loving. He would be a good companion for someone seeking a low key buddy. Mr. Puggles takes a Thyroid low dose once a day medication. Without it he may have seizures due to thyroid levels. He has had no issues at his foster due to his thyroid being off. Mr.Puggles will be an awesome companion and best buddy to one lucky person or family! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-16-00494Maggie (female)

Beagle Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

My husband and I adopted Maggie about a month ago. When we got her not only was she recovering from being thrown out of a car, but she also had kennel cough, worms and a parasite. We took her to the vet right away and she is now worm and parasite free. The kennel cough is also gone and her scar is 95% healed. She is great with other dogs, loves people and kids. We fell in love with her and decided to keep her until we took her to the Vet last night. It turns out she has cushing's disease. For those of you who don't know what this is it makes dogs constantly thirsty and makes them urinate more frequently. There is medicine for this condition, ... (Read More)which apparently helps the dogs greatly. However, this medicine can run anywhere from $100-$200 a month. Under normal circumstances Nick and I would take on this additional expense, however because of our current situation we cannot afford this expense right now. In addition, we live in a condo on the 3rd floor. This makes it's harder to take her out more frequently. (which again with the medicine would decrease) We really do not want to bring her back to a shelter. We are going to try and keep her for however long it takes for us to find her a good home. Again, if there is someone who is willing to pay this expense every month, Cushing's disease is very manageable. She really is a great dog and this breaks my heart writing this message. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in Illinois
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
