Rescue Me ID: 17-01-17-00287Maree (female)

Beagle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

MAREE is a wonderful, very sweet and well-behaved young girl. She came to Streethearts Animal Rescue after she had been struck by a car and ended up at the emergency veterinary clinic. Thankfully, she did not sustain any serious injuries and after her stray hold was up she became a Streethearts Foster dog. This suspected Beagle/Pit mix weighs a solid 54 lbs. She certainly doesn't look like she weighs 54 pounds but she's all muscle and very trim. The Vet says she is about one year old. Marie is an energetic walker and would do well with a person who loves to run. She is learning heel and stay and other commands. She's extremely smart and ... (Read More)eager to please. We feel she would be an excellent candidate for the agility training or perhaps even Fly ball or Frisbee. Maree does well with all ages of human beings, she likes other dogs and she does fine with cats. The first night she was rescued, the person who held her overnight said that Maree washed her cat. If you do have cats, you'll have to make the litter box inaccessible. Maree seems to feel that cat poo is is a special treat. This girl is very loyal and loves to snuggle. She unfortunately, likes to dig. If you have moles, she will dig to China for them. Close attention will need to be paid to the bottom of fences. Marie does COME when called. Maree comes to you completely vetted. She is spayed, she is micro-chipped, she's been tested negative for heartworm and Lyme's disease, she is up-to-date on all her vaccines and free of parasites. Email for an adoption application and schedule a meeting and greet for this very special girl. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-03-19-00273Selma (female)

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Selma was rescued from a high kill shelter in San Antonio, TX in January 2016. She was so scared in the shelter, she was snapping at the staff. She was sure to be one of the first to be euthanized that day because of her fearful behavior. Selma is a beautiful, fun, playful and energetic little girl. We saw that within just a few days of being at our house. She is about 4 years old and mature beyond her years, but very young at heart and extremely intelligent. Selma knows 'sit' and willingly does so when she wants a treat! She also knows 'no' and listens very well when asked to redirect her behavior. She is also crate trained, house trained ... (Read More)and prefers to be loose in the house, although we recommend crating her when she is alone for long periods. Selma was listed at the shelter as a shepherd mix but, she is really the size of a beagle and weighs only about 25-30 pounds. Because Selma was likely abused before she was picked up as a stray, we recommend her new family have no small children and prior dog experience. Despite Selma's past, she has a very playful side and loves people who are fun and will play with her. Selma loves to run through the house, grunting, and playing with toys. Squeak toys are her favorite but, she also enjoys a relaxing chew on a Nylabone. She enjoys being near people and longs for human contact. She mostly just wants to know she isn't alone and is safe in her environment. %BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%81S Selma is also crate trained and goes willingly into her crate at meal time and for treats. She is house trained, too. Selma is dog and cat friendly but, needs to be introduced properly due to her fear of new friends. Selma is also leash trained and knows her name, and comes running when called! Selma would LOVE a fenced yard since she is somewhat fearful and timid. A fenced yard would offer her security and help her gain her confidence. We would recommend not leaving her off leash for a while in the beginning and then, progressing to a long line attached to her collar when allowing her to roam free in her yard. Selma's only requirements include: prior dog experience and a fenced yard, being committed to giving her the best life, people willing to move slow and speak softly in order to help gain her confidence and trust, loving her forever, and being her best friend. Please email or call if you are interested in adopting Selma and forever making her a part of your family. We require an adoption application, references, home check and adoption contract. Her adoption fee is $225, and she is up to date on vaccinations, HW negative and taking preventative, dewormed, spayed, and microchipped. Each adoption is considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the dog and their requirements as well as the family and their circumstances. NO TEXT MESSAGES please!! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in Michigan
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in Michigan if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
