Rescue Me ID: 17-08-15-00182Ruger (male)

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We rescued a 3 year old Beagle mix almost a year ago. He unfortunately needs more attention and training than we are capable of giving him with a 7 month old baby at home. We are looking to give him to someone who is dedicated to spending time and is interested in investing their energy into training him. Ideally we would love to see him on a farm where he can chase rabbits all day long. Unfortunately, I will say he is incredibly gun shy and gets nervous during thunderstorms so he would make for a lousy hunting partner! He does show aggression when he is around big dogs (he is fine around smaller dogs) and has bitten both my husband and ... (Read More)myself on more than one occasion while walking him and a larger dog comes around. We CANNOT take the chance of him biting our children and is the main reason for needing to find him a new home. Other than the aggression toward bigger dogs he is a VERY LOVING and CUDDLY pooch, he just needs someone who can invest time into him. He is a weekend warrior and has traveled with us almost every weekend since we've had him and he travels very well. He will of course come with all his toys and a brand new travel crate. Ruger is roughly 25lbs has been neutered, is fully vaccinated and has a micro chip. He is an indoor dog and we would like him to remain an indoor dog at his new home. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-07-08-00203Elwood - IN TRAINING (male)

Beagle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi! My name is Elwood but you can call me El! I'm a charming 2.5 year old, 60lb shepherd/hound mix that has had a bit of a rough start. My previous family didn't take good care of me and I had a severe case of non-contagious mange. It was so bad that I ended up losing all my fur! The shelter took good care of me and a lot of my hair has come back and I have made great improvements. I think you will still find me to be very handsome! I do have some food and environmental allergies, but I don't let that stop me from being a sweet lovable boy. Since I am a hound, I will need a standard fence. I would do best in a home without cats and hope to ... (Read More)learn some manners so I am able to read other dogs' social cues a little better. I should be in a home with older children (12 and up) but that may change after my training. Speaking of training, I spent a long time in the shelter but now I get to go into the prison companion program where I look forward to spending time with my trainers and after they train me, I would love to become part of your FUR-ever family! I'm neutered, UTD on all my shots, HW, and FT. I have a microchip in case I get lost and will require a physical fence to keep me safe. RPSM recommends homes with children 12 years and older. If you are interested in adopting me please fill out an application today by going to www.rpsm.org. My adoption fee is $300. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in Michigan
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in Michigan if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
