I am kennel trained, and potty trained. I love playing with the resident dogs, and will even let them know when I'm not done playing. I do well around kids, and cats also!     'Billie Jean is not my lover, she's just the girl who claims that I am the one.....' This is what my foster mom sings to me every day. I'm Billie Jean and I love my foster mom. I follow her everywhere she goes and then I have to do the 'moon walk' cause we are headed back to where we just left! My foster mom just laughs at me. I am a good girl, around 6 years old and 21 pounds. I know I need to gain some weight, but mom says as soon as I get thru all my medical procedures I'll start putting that weight on. I know how to go outside and do my 'business' by myself and my mom trusts me in the house while she is at work. I am learning ... (Read More)commands now and love to snuggle on the couch with my foster mom. I can climb just about anything except I prefer a step stool to get on the couch. I will be looking for a forever home very soon. Billie Jean is current on vaccinations and micro chipped. Billie Jean is currently undergoing HW treatment to get rid of those nasty worms!! She is currently not spayed. She will be able to get spayed, as soon as her HW treatment is complete and she has a clean a bill of health. (Less)

Macy knows how to sit, walk with harness & leash, and ride politely in a car. She kennels well, is house trained, and enjoys playing wit other dogs. Although Macy has not been witnessed around cats, her foster family is pretty confident, she would love to curl up wit them. Macy is a happy social girl. Macy loves human contact most of all! She is never far form one of the humans in her foster family and does quiet well staying out from under their feet. If you ... (Read More)enjoy carrying a grateful, loving girl, Macy is your gal! Being so small makes it hard for Macy to stay warm. Humans are the best at keeping the shivers at bay! She is hoping for a family that spoils her with warm laps and a toasty bed!     Hey! Hey, I'm Ed! My name is Ed, wait, did I tell you my name is Ed?!? I am a beagle /doxie mix who is around 1 years old! I am that guy on the block who loves to have fun , run, and play!! I get really excited sometimes, especially when I see new people!! My foster mom is working with me and helping me not to jump! I need someone who will be patient with me as my foster momma calls me a little crazy! After all, I am still considered a pup! I just feel the need for speed, the wind in my ears is music to my quick little feet. I love long walks but I do get sidetracked by smells, noises, and well just about anything, my foster mom ... (Read More)also says I can't concentrate for long periods of time. But, hey'| I am a hound!!! I get a little noisy when dinner time comes, so I tend to yell until I know someone won't forget to feed me. Oh and I also love to snuggle, sometimes I just plop on mommas head and nibble on her ear while she's sleeping and she jumps a little. Kennels kind of scare me so I like to sleep in piles of pillows or in bed. I'm completely potty trained and I'm good left out during the day as long as I have some chew toys around. If you forget , I like to substitute toilet paper or boxes as a sufficient replacement. Hey'| I am not picky!!! I do have this funny crooked front leg thing going on. They say it is a birth defect, but let me tell you'|it does not slow me down one bit!!! If anything, it gives me some character! %81S The best home for me would be someone who likes to active, and I feel I must have a fenced in yard so I can run and burn my energy! Beagle    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My name is Pixie!! I'm a 7 year old Beagle. I'm a little smaller (20lbs) than the average Beagle-hence the name Pixie. I finished heart worm treatment on January 15. I will need to be rechecked in 6 months to make sure all those nasty worms are completely gone, until then I will need to take monthly heart worm preventative (I will need this year round). For the next 6 to 8 weeks I will need to stay calm and play as little as possible because I still cough due to the heart worms. My foster mom promises me morning walks when the time comes. I get along with the blind Basset Hound and the three cats that I live with. My foster mom suggests ... (Read More)that I go to a family that has kids 12 and over or better yet an older couple that can spend time giving me belly rubs. My foster mom says I have a separation anxiety. I call it togetherness. I won't leave her side. She even has to leave the shower curtain part way open. I wake her up at 3 am every morning by laying on her and licking her face. I'm just checking to make sure she is okay. I'm learning not to jump on people. My foster mom thinks it's due to my separation anxiety. My foster mom and I are working really hard to get this taken care of. I will need a secure fenced yard. I do a morning and evening patrols of the yard to keep all squirrels and rabbits out!!! Pixie is current on vaccinations, spayed and micro chipped. (Less)

Meet little Miss Ladybug! Ladybug is beagle/terrier mix who is around 1 years old. She is a petite little one who weighs around 20lbs. Six weeks ago Ladybug gave birth to a liter of 5 puppies! Know that her time of being a mamma is done, she is in search of finding her forever home and family to call her very own! Ladybug is a very affectionate little girl. She craves attention from her human friends. She LOVES to snuggle. Ladybug is currently working on her manners and learning not to jump on you as you walk thru the door. A home with small children, may not be the best. She knows how to use the doggie door to go outside for ... (Read More)potty, but she can be very stubborn if it is cold outside. Ladybug is not to found of going into her kennel, she may need a little assistance going in, but once she is there, she does fine!. Ladybug is working on learning the command of sit, but if you give her a treat (which she adores), she will do anything you want. Rescue Me ID: 16-01-27-00113Adele (female)

Beagle    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello from the southern side! I must be loved a thousand times! My name is Adele, and I am a wise, goofy, and curious senior female beagle with soulful eyes. I am about 10 years old, medium sized at 25 lbs., spayed, house-trained, happy, and have a lovely singing voice. I love to romp in the yard; go for walks; play with stuffed toys; and enjoy being with my people, children, other dogs, and cats. I am current on vaccinations, HW-, on monthly heartworm preventative, micro chipped and at my ideal weight. I am an easy dog with no health problems, no behavior problems, and no bad habits. I am ready to become a part of a loving home. Adele is a ... (Read More)sibling of three other beagles also being fostered with BBRH (Penny Lane, Poppy, and Blossom). She and her siblings were recently relinquished by an elderly owner who needed to enter a nursing home. She and her siblings were pretty portly princesses when they first arrived into foster care. Adele has since slimmed down to her ideal weight, and sports a voluptuous but trim shape. At first Adele can be wary of new people, but warms right up to anyone offering kindness or treats. Being from an elderly home, she was likely previously accustomed to a quiet environment. She is a total success in her current foster family environment, which is moderately active and somewhat noisy with foster mom, foster dad, elementary school aged children, 3 other dogs, a cat, and visitors on a daily basis. She would likely do just fine in any welcoming home environment. Adele is currently being fostered in Springfield, MO. Commands Adele knows include Sit, Wait, Okay, Outside, Bedtime, Mama's Room, Cookie, Breakfast, Dinner, Rug, Crate, Off, and No. She is working on learning Stay, Lie Down, and Come. She is house-trained and will come to find you when she wants to go outside to potty. She knows to Sit and Wait at the door before coming back inside. She is eager to please and enjoys being with you. Curious about what you are doing and hoping a morsel of food might drop, Adele will be close by keeping you company (unless she's napping, of course). She is crate-trained and will excitedly run right into her crate to get the treat you offer her once she is inside and the door is latched. She has never had an accident in the crate. She loves to play with toys and carry them around in her mouth. She never tears up the toy, just likes to get them out of the basket, play with them, and carry them around. By her gentle behavior with her toys, Adele's foster mom believes she previously had puppies. When around puppies, Adele likes to play with them and closely supervise their activities. Foster dad enjoys playing with Adele and her toys, and the two of them like to cuddle on the sofa when watching tv. Adele and foster dad took right to one another. Adele enjoys hanging out with other dogs, loves people and children of all ages, and delights in zooming outside with her 3 beagle foster sisters. Adele has always lived with several dogs and cats and is completely comfortable around feline family members. She sleeps on the bed with her feline foster sister, keeps to herself, and in general has no particular interest in kitty's daily activities. Adele loves to poke her head out through the kitty-door to the garage and supervise your activities when you're out there, hoping you will come back inside soon. She is completely comfortable with the door flap and would likely learn quickly to use a doggie door, if available. An opportunistic napper, Adele can be found lounging in the sunspot on the floor, nestled among the sofa pillows, crashed out in the dog bed, plopped on the kitchen rug, or sunning herself in the grass. Foster mom says the only time I ever bark is when the neighbor's teacup poodle taunts me through the fence. Other than that, I am a quiet, respectful lady, and prefer to be inside with my people. Foster mom also says I must be a French beagle as I like to lick you when you're not expecting it. It's a fun game I like to play. I will be at the door to greet you when you return home. I am very well-behaved when you are away. (Less)

My name is Daisy May and I am around 7-8 years old (though I think I'm more like 3) and proud to be a Puggle (Pug/Beagle mix). My favorite things are to snuggle as close as possible to my foster people, my foster friends or the closest pillow. I also like running around, playing, running around, sleeping, running around and seeing how high I can jump. I also love to give kisses. Lots and lots of kisses. Everyone tells me to act my age, but where is the fun in that! I am fixed, house broken, perfectly healthy and love sleeping in my kennel (or as close to my foster people as possible). I know a couple basic commands like sit and ... (Read More)stay. I love other puppies and play really nicely. I would be great with a family as I've had a lot of experience with kids. I also like to play, so the more people I could play with the better. Did I tell you that I'm super cute too? Daisy May is current on vaccinations, HW negative, spayed and micro chipped. (Less)

**ADOPTION PENDING** Hi, I'm Pearl! I am a bone-a-fide beagle, and a beauty at that. (Sorry, my transcribing foster mom loves alliteration) I am still a young pup; I can't tell time, but they keep saying I am 6 months to a year old. I was a little nervous when my foster peeps picked me up, but within minutes I knew I was safe. I showed my comfort by giving lots of kisses, wagging my tail, and snorting. Snorting is sort of my 'thing', anytime I get excited I give my trademark snorts and wiggle my hiney. People say that it is adorable and I would tend to agree. I spend my days with my foster bros. Brady is a former BBRH beagle and ... (Read More)Reagan is a Rhodesian Ridgeback. I LOVE my foster brothers. I love that Brady is my size and we play pretty much all day. We both love toys and to play fetch. Sometimes the people will throw one toy and we both like to carry it back at the same time. TEAMWORK! Reagan is at least twice my size and it sometimes makes me nervous. I am only 17 lbs strong and he could squish me! We all love eating time. Twice a day our foster parents say 'go to your place' and we all know to go sit at our food bowls. CHOWTIME! I am still working on sitting on command, but I learn very quickly. When people say 'Pearl', I cock my head and think 'Hey! That's me!' and run in their direction. I know, impressive. At night, I love to wedge myself as close as possible to the hip of my foster people. Snuggling is the best. They keep calling me a Velcro dog, but I don't know what that means. Now for the important stuff%BD'%BD|the bathroom. You see, I am working on it. No one ever told me that I needed to potty outside. Since they have told me, I have fixed that%BD'%BD|furrr sure. It has been a while since I have had an accident. I don't really like being by myself or in my crate. I know that I am supposed to feel safe in a crate, but I spent a lot of time in one and now when I go in, I never know if I am going to be let out. My foster people are working on my crate trust issues, but I will need some time. Anyway, enough about me. What I would like is a furever home with loving people and loving pups. 'What about cats, Pearl?' Hmmmm, cats? I don't think I have been around a cat before. I might like them, but not really sure. I have never been around tiny humans, but given my overall gentle nature, I would like them. Those tiny humans need to be dog savvy. No pulling on my tail or ears! My ideal family would have a fenced in yard or the ability to take me to the dog park to run around (I love to socialize with other dogs). They would need to love cuddling and giving belly rubs, and providing playtime (get LOTS of toys). Most importantly: my new family will give me their unconditional love. I am current on my vaccinations, HW negative, spayed, microchipped, and AWESOME! (Less)

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

**ADOPTION PENDING** Hi, I'm Layla. I'm an approximately 4 year old beagle mix. I was found as a stray in St. Louis and was scheduled to die through no fault of my own. Luckily Bassett and Beagle Rescue of the Heartland stepped in and saved me. My foster mom said she is so happy that they did because I'm a good little girl with a lot of life left in me. I live with my foster mom and 4 other dogs. I have 2 foster sisters and 2 foster brothers. I am learning how to get along with them more and more every day. WhenI first came to live with my foster family I had a hard time sharing with the other dogs. I would sit on the couch and growl and ... (Read More)snap at the other dogs if I thought they were trying to sit by me. My foster mom said that I couldn't act nice that and I had to get off the couch. I have a kennel that is all mine. Mom keeps the door open so I can go in there when I need to chill out. I have been doing so much better and even snuggle up to my foster brothers and sisters and take a nap. I still want to snap some, so we are working really hard to break me of that habit. Deep down, I know that's not being a sweet girl and I really am a sweetie. I also would get upset with the other dogs when I was getting attention from mom. I didn't realize that she has love for all of us. Mom felt so bad when I first came to live with her because I would start crying then barking whenever she was giving me pets and hugs. She was afraid that maybe it had been a long time since anyone had showed me any love that I didn't know how to react. I don't do that anymore because I know I'm loved and safe. Mom calls me a Seagle because when I bark I sound like a combination of a beagle and a seal. I sure like to bark! I bark at meal times and when I want to come back in and sometimes for no reason at all. It doesn't help that one of my foster sisters is a beagle also. We just like to have loud conversations together. It's a beagle thing!!!!! Mom calls us the beagle babes. When we hear her call out beagle babes we come running. Well, most of the time! I'm not really a fan of the cold weather so I don't always want to stay out for long. Sometimes I get to playing with the other dogs and forget I don't like to be outside. I sometimes find a ball in the yard and I will play with it. If you throw it I will try to grab it but, if I do I just stop and play with it instead of taking it back to my foster mom. After all, she threw it so she must not have wanted it, right? I like to eat and have a good appetite. What beagle doesn't like to eat, right? I get real excited at meal times and that's when I really show my barking skills. I am not completely housebroken yet but I don't have many accidents. When I do ,unfortunately go on the dog beds. Hey there's no carpet for me to go on. I haven't figured out yet how to let anyone know when I need to go outside. I'm working real hard on not having accidents in the house. My foster mom thinks that I might have spent a lot of time outdoors and never was housebroken. I'm a smart girl so I will master it. My foster mom makes a big deal when I go to the bathroom outside and tells me what a good girl I am. I love treats and take them nicely. I come when called most of the time and we are working on more commands. I'm a smart little girl. It just doesn't appear anyone has worked much with me. I am very food motivated and not a picky eater at all. I'm in good health and am up to date on my shots and I am HW Negative!! I will need to be spayed before I go to my new home though. MY foster mom is going to get this done! I have not been around any kids yet but, I am going to be meeting some soon. I did see a little girl one day and my tail started wagging like crazy so I think I might be okay. I just have to work on my attitude some. I'm a work in progress but I've come a long way. I've had a lot of adjustments and changes in the last months and it's been a little scary and overwhelming. When my foster mom picked me up from the vet after being rescued she said I shook most of the way home. She felt so bad for me but is proud how well I'm learning to trust again. (Less)

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Hi, my name is Martha. I am an affectionate basset mix who is approximately 4-5 years old and weighs 43 lbs. I have lived with my foster mom and two furry brothers since early December. I get along with my furry foster brothers, but I can be selective about my doggie friends. I'll need to meet any potential new furry roommates before I join my forever family. If you don't have other dogs, that's okay since I love snuggling and playing with humans, too! I follow my foster mom everywhere around the house. She doesn't mind though since I'm almost always quiet as a mouse. If you're too busy, you can lead me to the couch and I'll happily ... (Read More)take a nap. I love to go for walks. My mom walks my brothers and I together. I love to stop and smell along the way. I have a kennel where I sleep at night and during the day. I am always willing to go in my kennel and rarely make a sound once inside. I am also potty trained!! My furry dog brothers and I get along best when we eat separately so we each eat in our own kennel. I also prefer not to be lifted up, but don't worry, I'm good at jumping, even with my cute, little legs, so I'll do whatever you want if you show me. My foster mom doesn't know how I would be with kids, but a home with older children would be best. One more thing, I'm undergoing heartworm treatment. I have a couple months of treatment left, but I look and act just like any other happy, healthy dog! I'll be staying with my foster mom until treatment is finished, but that gives you more time to find a nice place for me to sleep and plan our walks! If you love walks, cuddling, playing, and sleeping, I'm your girl! Martha is current on vaccinations, spayed, and micro chipped. (Less)

Hi, I'm Dusty, I am a mature 6-7 year old Beagle, (I might have a little Terrier mixed in there)! but mostly beagle! I love everybody. I'm good around kids, other dogs and I'm OK with cats. This is foster mom here, Dusty is a great dog, he is housebroken, loves short walks and loves to go in the car. He is OK in his kennel, he sleeps with us at night. He loves to nap and would love a lap to snuggle on. Dusty has bronchitis and does some coughing. I am treating him with medication and a natural extract. The cost for that is around $40 a month. He is doing so much better with the care he has gotten. Dusty would be good in most homes, ... (Read More)he has been around a 6 year and does fine with her, because he has bronchitis, he would probably do better in a quieter home and a smoke free home. Dusty is current on all vaccinations, HW negative, neutered, and micro chipped. (Less)

Beagle    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Kringle joined us at BBRH just before the holidays, and he certainly is reminiscent of a certain someone who is 'chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf%BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD|'. Kringle is working on his extra size, and can zoom across the backyard with the best of them. He gets along great with his canine foster brother and sister, and has no issues with a 13-month-old human either. Like many beagles he follows his nose, and would be happiest in a fenced in backyard. He has also shown some interest in sneaking out open doors when family members are coming and going. Kringle's previous family has stated he's not a fan of the crate ... (Read More)but he's perfectly fine being left loose in the house when we are gone. At around 7 years old, Kringle is extremely affectionate, and loves to curl up on the couch and snuggle in for a nap (and snore!). All he has to do is find a couch in his forever home to get his Christmas wish. Kringle is housetrained, HW negative, neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all his shots. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-12-18-00279Beanie (female)

Beagle    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

**ADOPTION PENDING** Jellybean, or Beanie, is a Missouri girl with a gentle, old soul and has eyes that tell the story of a neglected life full of challenges. We think she's about 3 years old. She is a resilient little dog who has taken what life has thrown her and kept on going. Even though people were probably unkind to her, she hasn't lost her trust and desire to be close to people. She approaches you with her tail wagging and a hopeful look in her eyes, then sinks and cowers as soon as you reach for her, afraid you aren't going to be gentle. Once she realizes you are kind, she gradually relaxes and allows herself to enjoy your ... (Read More)attention. One of Beanie's favorite things is to be held like a baby and have her tummy scratched. After she relaxes, she might start to coo and softly cry, charming you and telling you all of her woes along with what happened that day. She usually falls asleep after a little while, feeling completely safe and loved. Being outside is Beanie's joy. She has a true Beagle nose and follows that nose wherever it takes her, even if it is outside of the yard! Beanie Houdini can wiggle through the smallest of holes in a fence or dig a hole under that fence in a flash. If she escapes, the easiest way to find her is to listen for yips, barks or that distinctive beagle howl, because she's following something and just can't help herself! When you find her, she cowers again, certain that she is going to be hurt. She needs lots of positive attention for what she does correctly, such as coming to you when called, and can't be scolded for her missteps. Beanie loves soft toys and carries them around the house. She also hides them and buries them outside. She always remembers where she put them, though, because all of a sudden she has a toy that has been 'missing' for a few weeks! She searches for a long time for the perfect hiding place, carrying the toy all around with her until she is satisfied with a certain spot. She covers toys with blankets, sticks them behind furniture and even puts them in corners and tries to cover them with dust bunnies! When Beanie arrived, her mouth and teeth were full of infection and inflammation for reasons we don't know. She needed dental surgery and had 18 teeth pulled (almost half of her teeth). She must have a yearly dental done at the vet's office from now on. She has adjusted very well to having fewer teeth and feels so much better since all of that infection is gone. She does best with canned dog food, or at least should have moistened, softened dry food for the rest of her life. She can chew most dog biscuits and likes to chew on toys like Nylabones for a while. Beanie is undergoing heartworm treatment and will be finished with this at the end of January. She will always need monthly heartworm preventive medication so she doesn't have to fight this terrible disease every again! (Less)

Hey everyone! My name is Milton or Peanut or Dobie the Elf, (my foster mom thinks I look like a character from Harry Potter). I am a 1-2 year old beagle mix looking for a cushy, smooshy bed, lots of toys and lots of ball playing. I like to run around and play, chase my foster siblings and sleep in the most luxurious of beds. I am a super small guy weighing only about 15 lbs- I am all legs and tail. I do get nervous around small humans so no kids under 10 please. I like the cat but she is old and doesn't play chase. I love to chew on Nyla bones and play tug of war with Maddux my doggie sibling. I am still working on housebreaking and ... (Read More)I HATE my crate so you will need a way to confine me while you are gone. We are working on being ok in a crate. I do fine in my foster mom's dog room. I pretty much just chew on toys and nap. I can get a little cranky and barky with other dogs when I get nervous so I should be introduced slowly. Nothing bad, I am just a little but anxious sometimes. I know sit, off and what No means. I love to rip up cardboard and paper towels (that's when I learned the word No!) I have the best wiggle butt dance when people come home and come out of the bathroom or come back from getting the mail. I do love my humans! I am neutered, all up to date on shots and micro chipped. I am ready to go and come with some sweaters since I am a skinny little thing! (Less)

Beagle    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I am pleased to announce darling Stella aka Little Nugget, Hey you, Helicopter Butt. She is believed to be about 7 years old and is a survivor of a hoarder and mass breeder situation. She spent her years, stuck in a crate, having litter after litter of puppies with little care or affection but she holds no grudges! She is a huge fan of all people and the belly rubs they offer. She warms up quickly and wants little more than to snuggle and nap with her humans. She is very tolerant with cats, even when they take swipes at her for no good reason! She does very well with kids, though I would recommend older children who won't grab at her too ... (Read More)much. While more than tolerant, she still flinches at fast movements and loud noises but rebounds quickly. Unfortunately, she does seem to have issues with other dogs, mostly females, who are similar in size. A slow introduction to other dogs would be advised so everyone stays safe and happy! She loves long walks, is very food motivated but not food aggressive. She is super smart and learned sit in about 5 tries. As is Beagle nature, she will follow her nose anywhere and can be very stubborn when she becomes focused on something. Stella has never tried to escape her leash or collar and is redirected pretty easily with some loving words. She's a wonderful walking buddy! Stella is mostly house broken. She has not learned to alert us when she has to go outside so we keep her on a schedule during the day. She easily goes through the night with no accidents so I think she just needs some more time. She is not a vocal dog, unlike most hounds....unless you leave her all alone. She does do well in a crate, as long as she can see one of her beloved humans. Once left alone, she barks the whole time and becomes very stressed. We are working on this and have full faith she will learn she is forever safe now! All in all, Stella is full of kisses and love and a helicopter tail that is just about the cutest thing I've ever seen. She is energetic and spry, despite her age. This little heating blanket just wants love, belly scratches...and hot dogs. Always hot dogs! Stella is current on vaccinations, HW negative, spayed, and micro chipped. (Less)

Hi, my name is Blair - my foster mom calls me Blair Bear a lot - and I'm about 8 years old. I'm shy. But once I'm comfortable and get to know you, I love to be petted and have my head scratched - I give lots of kisses too! I've been living in Omaha in a diverse foster home - there are foster kittens here too! And cats! And 2 little dogs. I don't mind the cats - and don't have any desire at all to chase or bark at them - and the dogs are my friends. I don't really want to play with them - and that may be because I don't know how. But I like to hang out with them. The kittens are very interesting - I like to sniff at them and stand ... (Read More)right outside their door. I've been working on potty training. My foster mom says I'm about 98% there. Once in a while, I forget I'm supposed to do that stuff outside. I am crate trained. And I like my crate very much. My foster mom works, so I'm crated while she's gone. And I don't mind one bit. But when she comes home from work, I want OUT! I get a little nervous if you reach for me or come towards me too fast. But if you sit down, I'll come right up to you and give you lots of kisses! And I love treats! I love outside - and I love the snow! But my favorite place is wherever I can see what's going on in the house. I love to be part of the family. Blair is current on all vaccinations, HW negative, spayed, and micro chipped. (Less)

Poppy is a 10 year old beagle mix, currently being fostered in Springfield, MO. She is a sibling of Blossom, who is also being fostered with BBRH. She was recently relinquished by her owner who was needing to enter a nursing home, along with several other dogs and cats in the household. Despite her age, she has no idea that she is supposed to be a senior dog, as she is full of spunk and quite playful. Poppy is on the large side for a beagle, weighing in at about 35 lbs and standing about 15 inches at the shoulder. She is spayed and up to date on vaccinations. She is sometimes suspicious of new people, but that tends to last for about 5 ... (Read More)minutes. She is good around other dogs and very tolerant of cats. Poppy loves to cuddle with people and is happy to snuggle under blankets. She is fully housebroken and takes advantage of her foster family's doggie door in order to have access to the backyard for one of her favorite activities, squirrel chasing!! She is very smart and adaptable, and would fit in well with practically any household. Though she has not been around young children, she would probably do very well with them. Please take a chance on an older lady and meet with Poppy. You're sure to fall in love! (Less)

Beagle    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Blind

My name is Lucy, and I am a 10 year old Beagle who is looking to find my furever home. My foster home says I have to tell you about me so here it goes......I was brought to the NHS because my owner got sick and could no longer care for me. NHS called BBRH and I got to go to a foster home the very next day! Even though I am older, I am in good health. Foster mom took me to the vet to get checked out and the vet said all my blood and urine tests show that I am healthy, and I'm heartworm negative! I do have a swollen mammary gland, (so they tell me) but the vet says that as long as it doesn't bother me all that has to be done is to keep an eye ... (Read More)on it. I've enjoy being at my foster home even though it's a really busy place. I have five (5) canine foster siblings and lots of big kids (older than 12) that live at the house. I get along with all the canines and humans. Some of my canine siblings are bigger than me, some are smaller, but all of them are younger than me. The biggest one (a male greyhound) and I get along fine. We just say 'hi' as we pass one another in the hall. There's another female greyhoud that likes to be playful with me sometimes, and I'm ok with that. There are two Beagle/terrier mixes that are young, but they really don't ask me to play. There's also a four month old Beagle/Husky mix who likes to play with EVERYBODY! I don't mind if she jumps on me or play bites my ear. Sometimes I will even play tug-of-war with her and one of the dog toys. Mostly though, I like to spend my days sleeping. I love to go for walks though. If you put my leash on me, I know that means we're going somewhere! Whether it's for a walk of for a car ride, I'm up for it b/c I do both really well! Even though my name is just Lucy, my foster mom is always calling me Lucy Lou or she sings this song to me with the words, 'Lucy in the sky with diamonds' and she tells me I'm a diamond. I'm not sure what that means, but I know that my name is Lucy and I respond well to my name! I think foster mom says I'm a diamond b/c she says I've adjusted to me new home really well!!!! You see, not only am I older, I am blind. We don't know exactly how I got blind, but foster mom says that I am amazing and that I do VERY well in terms of adjusting to a different surroundings, and I'm always happy! If I'm taking a nap and hear foot steps coming down the hall, I will start to wag my tail. I wag my tail when you call my name, and I wag my tail when you pet me. I'm just always happy!!! Foster mom always tells me I'm really smart, too. I think that's b/c I learned my way around my new house really fast. When it's time to go out, foster mom opens a sliding glass door that goes to a deck. I walk about three feet and then I take one small step down to the next level of the deck, walk about six feet more, take another small step down to a landing, then I have to walk down five steps to another landing of the deck........after I walk around on that for a little bit, (b/c I am a Beagle and my nose loves to check out all of the smells) I take one more small step down and I'm finally in the yard, where I love to roam around and smell everything! While I was learning to navigate the deck and the steps, foster mom would tap the deck with her hand right before I got to any step and she would say, 'step'. I learned really fast what that meant and now foster mom lets me go up and down without any help at all b/c I do such a good job (my foster mom was really worried I would fall down the steps). Sometimes when I'm just wondering around on the lower deck and foster mom's not sure if I want to come up or if I may not be sure of where I'm at, she will ask me if I want to come up. Usually I do b/c I like to be around my humans.....and after my journeys in the big yard, I need a nap! Anyway, when foster mom calls me, I go to the direction of her voice and when I am approaching the steps, foster mom says, 'step' and I know where I'm at and what I'm doing. I know what 'step' means! I am house trained and kennel trained!! YAY!! I do just fine sleeping on the couch with my foster fur brother while my foster parents are at work. I am very playful and get along well with my foster brother although we don't play together a whole lot because he's a lot bigger than me and makes me a ... (Read More)little nervous. PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in Nebraska
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in Nebraska if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
