Whew! We sure were getting low on dogs! Thankfully, the Williams family from Randolph, who has adopted two dogs from us, had made a donation a few weeks prior to sponsor a trip south! And Thelma and Louise said they were ready for a road trip! Alright, so I made that up, it was really Susan and Eileen who were the road ready warriors They jumped in their minivan and headed to West Virginia bringing back 18 wonderful dogs and puppies that had ended up in a high kill shelter. This shelter tries very hard to get the dogs out before their 'time is up'. We receive several emails a day begging for our help, so glad we could make this ... (Read More)journey. Thank you for choosing to rescue. Norman was born about January 13, 2015 and will probably top out in the 50-60 lb. range when full grown. We have no idea of what breed Mom or Dad were, but feel these kids really look like little Plott Hounds that are more common in the south, but one is white and tan and appears to be on the Beagle side of things. These lucky five are extremely outgoing, social, happy, little beings that are now ready to find a new home of their own and they hope never to see the inside of a shelter again! We do need to let you know that they are not the quietest pups around and would not do well in an apartment setting. (Less)

We've had him for a year now and love him but he recently bit my son in the face unprovoked and now my son is very scared of the dog. He has only ever shown such behavior to young kids, he's never bitten before but he has growled at young children but only ever in our home, never out in public. He would be perfect as a single pet in a home with no kids. We love him a lot but just don't feel we can keep him anymore

He is with us because his human father passed away and he was too much for his mature human mother to care for. He has a love everyone kind of personality and is wonderful with the other dogs. We are told he should not live with cats. He is pretty good on leash until his little Beagle nose smells something really good and then he pulls some. Max does love car rides! Rescue Me ID: 15-03-01-00263Jenny (female)

Beagle    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Who doesn't love a good old-fashioned hound dog? Jenny is the stereotypical beagle: all nose! When on walks she smells every thing she can get her nose on, excited by the possibility of finding a trail to follow. Jenny lived her whole life with a breeder who kept her, and the rest of her beagles, in outdoor kennels. She suffered severe medical problems and could no longer care for her beagles, and asked us to step in to help. Jenny was one of the four beagles we took from her kennels. Jenny was a little shy to begin with, but quickly came out of her shell! Because she lived her whole like in outdoor kennels, she can be very anxious in new, ... (Read More)indoor spaces, but quickly adjusts if there are squeaky toys to play with and a warm lap to cuddle in! Jenny takes some time to warm up to new people, and seems to be especially shy around children. She is very gentle so she could live with older children, but she would be happiest in a home with teenagers or adults only. She absolutely LOVES cats, but would prefer to be an only dog in her new forever home. If you are interested in providing this gorgeous girl a place to call home for the rest of her life, please call (914)-273-1674 or go online www.adopt-a-dog.org. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-01-00241Barney (male)

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

The first thing everyone notices about Barney is how goofy and adorable he is. He has the best qualities of a Beagle and a Bulldog, creating one perfect little nugget! There is nothing quite as uplifting as being created by this energetic boy, a toy in his mouth and a tail wagging so hard it makes his whole body wiggle. Unfortunately, Barney wasn't always the handsome and obedient dog he is today. Barney was purchased from a pet store as an expensive 'hybrid' Beabull dog to a family with several young toddlers. His family was promised a small dog that would be calm and easy to own. What they got instead was a 50 lbs. highly energetic and ... (Read More)intelligent dog that didn't want to be told what to do. Because he was so stubborn, his family let him get away with everything, instead of training him, and his behavioral problems became worse and worse until his family had to surrender him to our shelter at 10 months old. Almost a year later, Barney is unrecognizable from that puppy that was surrendered to our shelter. He is incredibly well mannered in the right hands. He has learned basic and advanced obedience training in addition to learning agility training and how to play appropriately with other dogs. He has come so far through our training program that we want to be sure that whoever adopts him will continue to help be the best dog he can be! Barney would do best in a home as an only pet to a local adult home that is willing to continue his training program. If you are this home, please call (914)-273-1674 or go online www.adopt-a-dog.org. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-01-00237Brewski (male)

Beagle    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Are you searching for the perfect distinguished gentleman to escort you through the neighborhood? If so, look no further, Brewski is the dog for you! Brewski is the stereotypical beagle: all nose! When on walks he smells every thing he can get his nose on, excited by the possibility of finding a trail to follow. Indoors he relaxes easily and enjoys long naps at your feet, along with the occasional ear scratch. Brewski lived his whole life with a breeder who kept him, and the rest of her beagles, in outdoor kennels. She suffered severe medical problems and could no longer care for her beagles, and asked us to step in to help. Brewski was ... (Read More)one of the four beagles we took from her kennels. All four were in poor conditions, with varying medical problems and levels of under socialization. Brewski was immediately the most outgoing and was completely healthy, except for his teeth. His teeth were in such bad shape that all but 2 or 3 were removed, leaving him with the most endearing and lovable toothless smile! Besides requiring his food to be a little mushy to help with chewing, he has no lasting effects of his previous neglect. Although he has never experienced living in a true home in his 11 years, it is always better late than never, and he cannot wait to be adopted into a life of luxury! If you are interested in providing this handsome boy a place to call home for the rest of his life, please call (914)-273-1674 or go online www.adopt-a-dog.org. (Less)

Frankie is a rescue from Los Angeles. He was rescued from an LA County shelter because his previous owner abandoned him in a locked car for a few days. He moved to NY with his owner when she got married and had kids. His family loves him but it's just too much to handle with a family now. Frankie loves attention and being around people. He is a great companion for someone who will pay lots of attention to him. He is super easy and travels well. He is a great companion that will attend dinners, the movies and any other activity. He will sit by your side or in a doggie bag and not make a sound. However, he can't be left alone ... (Read More)at home because he gets anxiety and he can't be crated.     I Sure Am A Happy Little Beaglel!!!! Dottie was born about March 31, 2009 and weighs about 25 lbs. This little Beagle came to us from a puppy mill, but she couldn't have been there long. We are suspecting that an unsuspecting owner gave her away 'free to good home' and she ended up at the mill. A week or so after arrival she turned into a happy, fun, normal, little Beagle that can't snuggle close enough when it's time to relax. She is wonderful with the other dogs and is having fun here, but would love a home, and humans, of her very own.

Will anybody love Lucy?? Lucy is a 10 year old Beagle. She is the last member of a family of breeder Beagles that spanned over 20+ years. She was born 5 years after the momma beagle stopped having pups and has spent her entire life with her mother, father, sister and brother beagles. Her last family member and brother beagle just passed away last month at age 15 and now Lucy is all alone. She is a little chubby and looks like she may have some sight and hearing problems but all in all is very sweet and would love and be so grateful for a good home. If anyone out there could love Lucy, please contact me

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This is my sweet pup Willow. I have had her since I adopted her when she was 9 weeks old. She is a sweet and wonderful, low maintenance companion but unfortunately my job responsibilities do not give me the time with her that she deserves. I often have to work weekends and late nights and she is lonely. She loves all adults and tolerates children as needed, though she is often fearful of small children and would be best in a house of adults. While Willow gets along with other dogs while out and about, she prefers to be the only dog in the household. She is gentle and curious of cats (and other small animals) but wants to explore them ... (Read More)and needs time to invade their space before she will leave them alone. Since most cats don't enjoy that, she is a better fit for a house without other pets. Willow is very obedient and respectful. She is healthy, vaccinated and house trained. She never chews! Willow would love someone to cuddle up with most days and daily walks. She does not have any special needs. (Less)

Beagle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This is Lucy! She's a one-year old Beagle/Hound mix who loves to run and retrieve balls. She is housebroken, had all her shots, she is spayed and she is micro-chipped. She's very sweet but has too much energy to be in a crate all day while we are at school and work. We're hoping to find a home for her that has lots of space to run, without the distractions of other pets or lots of people passing by. She shows her hunting dog roots because once she sets her nose or eyes on something, she does not want to give up on it. She is not good with other pets of any kind, but is good with adults and children. She is very sweet, but a bit stubborn.

I LOVE TO SNUGGLE! Lucy was born April 22, 2010 and was purchased from the 'breeder'. She came with a lot of medical paperwork which is good I guess, but it shows that she was once turned into a shelter and once picked up by dog control and not claimed even though the owner was located. So, here she is in another shelter because someone didn't have time for her any longer. Before looking at any paperwork she quickly moved into our home and our hearts. It took one evening to adjust and she decided she loved us and will do fine living with all these other dogs. We were told she was good with cats, but we saw too much interest when she ... (Read More)saw one to be comfortable. A couple of negatives are that she will chase cars and so she should have a fenced yard or always be on leash in her future and, hopefully, forever home. She also pulls some on leash so a harness may be the best tool for walking her and she does ADORE to go for walks. She is good with kids, especially ones that will snuggle, this girl will snuggle with anyone! She's been wonderful with the other dogs, but sadly at one time she was attacked, pretty bad, by one. She has fully recovered and there is no fear issues from the event. Lucy is house trained and does well pretty well in a car, it may be best to seat belt or crate her though. She is a quick learner and does sit, shake, roll over, and stay or treats. Oddly, she has a cropped tail. I guess the 'breeder' thought that a pug or a beagle should have cropped tails???? (Less)

He is good on leash and he will need a leash or a fenced yard as he is a typical Beagle that can have wanderlust. Pistol is here because his human Mom left the dogs, husband, and her home. Piston is fine in the car and is good about house training. He is just a sweet, old, guy that is here through no fault of his own. We are told he shouldn't live with kitties. Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Duke Berry was born about July 30, 2012 and weighs about 60 lbs. He is a handsome guy and knows it! He uses his charm on one particular young lady (dog). They are best friends and sleep together, hang together, play together, but they both understand that one day one of them will find a new home and they are ok with it. However, they told us that they really would prefer another dog, (preferably) of the opposite sex, in their forever homes. Duke does very good in the car and pretty good on leash. He came from one of the worse streets in the worse area of Olean. This same house and several neighbors have called us repeatedly to take ... (Read More)dogs from them. They get them (let some breed), tire of them, and give them away - very sad. Duke would like a normal home this time around and we hope he looses some of his cautious nature with us humans. (Less)

Once again our dog population was low and we were able to make a trip south, to a high kill area, and managed to fit 37 dogs and one tiny Siamese kitten into the Yukon XL!!! Rarely is there much vet work done on the dogs we choose so we have the normal expenses of getting them ready for adoption on top of the shelter pull fees, gas, one night hotel stay and lots of coffee so a trip costs us about $800.00. However, this trip was sponsored by Regain Physical Therapy!!! They are located at 3819 Monroe Ave., Pittsford, NY and are a new business with a new facebook site and we'd love to have you facebook them, 'Like' them, and give them a ... (Read More)shout out of thanks! If you know any other businesses that might be willing to sponsor a southern rescue mission, please let us know. Not one dog complained about the long ride and all have settled in nicely. Many of them seemed to have understood, right away, that they were now safe in our Dog House with fresh blankets, lots of Science Diet food, automatic waterers and even toys! It gets a little confusing when getting files ready for so many, so if breed, size, age seems questionable with the photos shown, please let us know. We are doing the best we can to save as many as we can. We so appreciate your understanding and willingness to adopt a dog we know little about that would have been dead, within a few days, If they had not come here. We always test out of towners for heart worm. Ceelo Bradley was born about August 19, 2013 and weighs about 30 lbs. He is a cute little thing that is looking forward to having some fun in life. He's happy, playful and loving and good with the other dogs. He is on the shy side, probably hasn't had a very good like until now, but he will come around nicely. If there are kids they probably shouldn't be the screaming, running, kind just for his comfort. Ceelo tested heart worm postiive, has been treated and all aftercare if completed. He needs to be kept on heart worm preventative at least 6-9 months and then he should be tested again just to be sure he now tests negative. (Less)

Loretta Lynn was born about June 10, 2005 and weighs in the 40 lb. range. Eight is the new five for this country singer as she hitched a ride with one of our volunteers that was in Nashville for a festival and decided not to waste the trip without saving a life or two. We found a dog control officer that had a few dogs that were hours away from death and he just hated to because they were such friendly dogs. Loretta was saved by one quick phone call! She does pull on leash and should be better with a gentle leader or appropriate collar. She rode wonderfully all the way North. She is very affectionate and will adore you! Loretta ended up ... (Read More)at the pound because, well, she's a beagle and if you don't contain a Beagle with a fence or keep them on leash they will wander off. They don't mean to, they just can't help but follow their noses, it's what they were bred to do. So, we can't imagine how unloved she must have felt when the people in this world that professed to love her forever when she was that cute puppy told dog control to keep her, they couldn't be bothered. By the way, she ducks when we clip a leash to her collar. She is telling us that wherever she was, it wasn't a very nice place. In the one photo you will see the green building in the back, that is where they were headed. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in New York
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
