My name is Lee Lee and all my life all I have known is being abandoned. When I was younger who ever owned me threw me out on a dead-end road. The people who live there took care of me for several years. But when I got picked up by Animal Control they abandoned me too. I'm very smart I sit and give howdy and I love children. I would love to be an only dog because I really love attention. I am looking for someone to be my hero and give me a forever home. He is slowly learning to trust. He's shown no aggression, just fear. He will let you pick him up and cuddle him...it's just takes awhile for him to relax. He is going to be such a great bonded dog once he learns what love is again. Since he is so scared it would be best for him to be in a quiet environment with no young children. He is heartworm positive..his heart is a bit enlarged..he has had x~rays ....he is on the slow-kill pills!

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-23-00096Daisy (female)

Beagle Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Hello there! My name is Daisy. I hope you'll take just a moment to read my story, as I've been without a family now for quite some time. The Halfway House took me after I was seized by the local Animal Control facility. I had been abandoned in a home with my puppies, many of my siblings, and lots of other dogs, after my family moved out of the house and left all of us alone. It took quite a while for the neighbors to realize a very bad smell was coming from my house, and finally my rescuers came! Or so I thought. Because I was part of a cruelty case, I went from a home with deceased dogs and filthy conditions to steel bars, away from all my ... (Read More)siblings and everyone I knew. Luckily, after my case was tried in court, I was up for adoption! I was so excited! So I waited... and waited... and waited... and finally my last day came around. I didn't know what 'last day before euthanasia' meant, but it didn't sound good. Boy was I wrong! Apparently, 'last day' is the day the Halfway House came to get me! And I'm so thankful for that. I have now been with the Halfway House for about a year- with a brief stay with another family. Because of my past history of abuse and neglect, I bond VERY quickly to people, but then I become very protective of them. I don't want anyone to hurt them, or take them away from me. I am at a foster home now, and I do very well with correction, but I need a VERY SPECIAL and experienced owner who is going to continue to train me not to protect them. I need an owner who is going to be willing to continue working with a trainer, and who promises to always take care of me, even if that means putting me away when guests come over, or using a basket muzzle until my behavior is resolved. I know this is a behavior I can get over, because I am doing much better in my foster home, but once I leave my foster home, I will need constant training and reassurance. My foster mom tells me I am the most sweetest, smartest, loving, perfect dog in the world other than that one issue! I love other dogs, cats, and I do well with children as long as they are nice to me. I am house trained and would never have an accident, and I absolutely LOVE my crate. I sleep under the covers at night, and I have no resource guarding or food guarding with humans, although sometimes I don't want to share my bones with other dogs. I walk well on a leash, and I am just the sweetest, snuggliest, most wonderful girl in the world. Could you be the forever family I'm meant for? (Less)

In February of 2015 I adopted a beagle from ARF in Jackson County NC. His name was Barney and he is now Marcus. At the time, they estimated his age at 4 years. They didn't know much about his past. He was found as a stray. He'd been adopted out a couple of times and always brought back. I wanted to give him his forever home! He was a scared little guy and very overweight. At first it seemed like it was a match made in heaven. I also have a mini schnauzer and a couple of cats who he got along with. At first, he also seemed to get along with my fiance. That quickly changed. We pieced together that he must have had a bad experience with a human ... (Read More)male. He snipped and snarled at him and finally bit him on the hand. My mom saved the day and took him in. She lives in Union County NC. She and a female roommate had two other dogs and a cat and again, there seemed to be no problem with the other animals. He then started getting very food aggressive with the other male dog. The roommate and other male dog moved out so we thought we were in the clear. Recently my fiance, myself, and our 7 month old baby moved in with my mom and everything seemed to be going great. But then about 5 times in the past two weeks, Marcus has snarled and snipped at the active baby. We love Marcus very much. He has never had to want for food or a soft bed to lay on or been without an abundance of cookies while with us. He sleeps under the blankets with my mom every single night and has never been asked to move. But something in his past makes him feel that he has to defend his space...and in a manner where he is snarling, barking, and snipping at a baby. And I completely understand that babies can be rough with animals but we haven't allowed the baby to tug or pull on any of the animals. We believe Marcus needs to live with a single female where he is the only kiddo...four or two legged :) It breaks our hearts that we aren't his forever family but want to help him get to his forever happy home.     Hello everyone!! My name is Kevin and I was pulled from a kill shelter by my rescue because I was listed as rescue/urgent. I was really scared in the shelter environment and hated being kenneled there for weeks upon weeks with all the dogs barking and people walking by my kennel. I was said to be nippy and didn't like the kennel there at all. I went to my foster home and I still do not like being crated and my rescue believes a crate was used for punishment and that is why I show my teeth and will sometimes snap because I associate it with my past. Also, they found if you point your finger at me,I don't like that either and if I could talk I ... (Read More)would tell you what happened to me. I am house broken and whine when I need to go out. I sit for treats on my hind legs and I love playing with my new doggie siblings and human sisters. I go for long walks each day and walk great on a leash. I need a new family that will take their time with me so I can trust again. I really prefer to be in a home where I am not crated if at all possible because it scares me. Once I know I am safe I do really well. I am approx. 1 year old per my shelter paperwork and believed to be a collie-beagle mix. I am fully vetted, hw negative and on preventatives now. I am now in a training program to help me with socialization and to over come my fears and I am really making progress my trainer says. I still do not like the crate so I need a home where a crate will not be used. My trainer is going to foster me until I find my new family and she will even meet with them and tell them what I do and don't like once someone wants me. I really want my own rea forever home so will you please share my bio to help me? Love, Kevin (Less)

Hi! I am Sam and the sweetest 45 pound hound dog you will ever meet. My foster mom was told about hound dogs and I have been out to prove her wrong. I love the crate, but can totally be trusted out of it. I am great at using the bathroom outdoors and I don't bolt out the door for anything. I do love to lie around, but have pep when needed. I am great on a leash. My only issue is I have to be encouraged to keep walking, but a little tug gets me going again. I am great with my foster sister, even when she tries to tell me she is in charge. I also live with 7 kids in the house (age 17 to 8 months). They love me a lot and like to give me lots of ... (Read More)attention. My foster mom praises me on how wonderful I am with kids of all ages. I can't wait to find a forever home because I will be the most loyal and loving dog for you! I am heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention as well as flea/tick prevention. I am neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention, up to date on vaccinations, and on flea/tick prevention.     Randall is a 2-5 year old Beagle (possibly basset/beagle mix) who was found as a stray originally and after no owner redeemed him, we accepted him into our rescue. Upon our trip to the vet, we found out he was hw positive and had a yeast infection on his skin. Fast forward a year later, he was adopted once, and just got brought back due to the family splitting. He is now heartworm negative, skin has healed nicely, but he does have to be on thyroid medicine and heart medicine (for a heart murmur) for the rest of his life. Randall is good with dogs, and kids and everyone he meets. A home without cats is preferred. if interested in sweet ... (Read More)chubby boy Randall, let us know. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in North Carolina
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
