Rescue Me ID: 18-05-22-00429Boomer (male)

Beagle Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Boomer is a very loyal companion. He loves to be with his master. However he is nervous and protective and territorial. Therefore, he would make a good watchdog for someone without young children or other pets. He especially gets along with women, however, he will warm up to a man. I have him on fluoxetine for his nerves. He doesn't have any physical health problems. He has been taken good care of. He likes to play and go for walks, but he can also be a couch potato and lazy.

Beagle    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adult Women Only
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Needs Vaccinations, Fearful/Anxious

Mya is a very sweet girl. She just turned 1 on May 1. When I bought her last year we were not expecting to have to move.I have looked and looked and can not find a place that will take 3 dogs. She has been spayed, and will need vaccs this month. She has only been on grain free food. She is good with kids but if they are eal loud they make her nervious. She seem to be timid around men until she gets to know them than she is fine. It would be best to but her with either a very active owner that can run her or with another dog to play with..Great with dogs of all sizes and has never been around cats.

Rescue Me ID: 18-05-10-00175Roxie (female)

Beagle Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Male Dogs Only, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Seizures

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] Roxie is a sweet, loving girl who only wants to be near her people. She ) is fully house and crate trained, UTD on all immunizations. Loves to play ) ball, chew on Nylabones, old knotted socks and throw them in the air. She ) loves car rides. One of her favorite things to do is lay upside down and ) watch her world go by. She has been in a multi dog household, also with ) cats. She is an energetic dog even at her age 7/8. A one dog home would probably suit her best. ) ) ) Roxie and the older female dog in the home have personality conflicts which have ) gotten more serious. Due to this I have made the heartbreaking decision ... (Read More)) that it would be best to rehome Roxie to give her a chance to have a ) loving home where she does not have to compete for my attention or be ) separated from the rest of the family- she does not understand and I only ) want to give her the best in life. She deserves a one pet (hopefully- and ) definitely no other female dog) home where she can thrive on an owner's ) love and attention. She is currently on medication for seizures that she had about a year ago, doing very well on the meds. Checkup and bloodwork in January 2018 was passed with flying colors. Owner is willing to assist for a short time with the cost of the meds if a loving home can be provided for her. She had surgery for ACL about 2 years ago....healed perfectly and is very active, running, etc. We would also be willing to help transport Roxie to your location within reason after an agreed upon adoption. I am hoping to find Roxie a loving home as soon as possible, to allow her goofy personality to shine; she only wants to be loved and love her people. Can you help please to give Roxie a new, loving home? (Less)

If you like throwing a ball, Sadie is the girl for you. She's very athletic and never tires of retrieving balls and laying them at your feet. She can also catch balls in mid air.     This bonded pair have been passed on to me from my father who passed in February. Bella the black one is female and is spayed and around 7/8 yes old. Buddy and her have been together their whole lives. I would love to keep them together if possible. I am a huge dog lover but I'm not home enough for them. They are very sweet and gentle. They are used to just a fenced in yard. My dad loved these dogs so much and he was retired and home with them more than I can be.

Rescue Me ID: 18-03-26-00171Anna (female)

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Anna. I'm about 3 years old and I weigh about 35-40 lbs. I was brought in to the pound by someone who claimed to have found me as a stray. I was okay while he was here but when he left I turned very fearful. It has taken me weeks to finally come around to shelter staff and volunteers. Now that I have gotten time to get used to everyone, I am very happy and loving with the people here. I am still afraid of strangers and I act defensive initially. I just need someone who will be patient with me and give me time to come around to you rather than someone who corners and pressures me. It takes me a little while but once I ... (Read More)know you're not going to hurt me, I will start coming up to you and letting you pet me and once I get to know you, I turn into a very happy, loving, playful dog. I get along well with other dogs and I do like to play with other dogs. I am not a fan of other dogs coming near my food, even if I am not eating it, so if you have other pets, I will need fed separately. I have been doing great with keeping my kennel clean and I don't potty in the office either as long as I am let outside often enough. I will require a patient family, preferably without small children, that will be able to train and work with me on my socialization skills. If you think you will be a good family for me and have the time and patience fr me, please consider being my family! Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Rescue Me ID: 18-03-18-00314Frankie (male)

Beagle Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Frankie has not had one single inquiry :( Frankie (the former Jimmy), was so skinny and depressed when we pulled him. The kind of dog who lived his entire life on a chain with little love and affection. Frankie has had a comprehensive blood panel and check up with our vet...he's anywhere from 8-12 years old, beagle mix (possibly boxer in there) and fairly active...not the lazy sleepyheads most seniors are. He LOVES everyone, dog friendly, curious about kitties. His blood panel showed he is in a light stage of heart worm so we are treating him slow kill which will follow with him should he get adopted. I am not a fan of injections for the ... (Read More)old timers. He should be negative within 6 months. That is his only health issue. He has also had a fecal. He is fully vaccinated, including rabies and is neutered. He is on nexguard as well as heartguard. If you'd like to welcome Frankie as your newest family member, apply for him at: gratefulheartssenordogrescue@gmail.com Indoor home only, home check and a vet ref apply to adopt from us...as well as all other pets must be fully vetted and on all preventatives. Frankie is in the Chillicothe Oh area so reasonable travel distance appreciated for a home check and initial meet/greet. Updated information from his foster: He is such a sweet and loving, happy dog, he deserves the very best home we can find-and they will be lucky to have him! The positives: 'ۢ Frankie is an active, vigorous guy, and can keep up with active families. His energy level does not suggest that of a typical senior dog. He is not big on napping during the day and wants to be busy, so I think his ideal home would be more active than mine, with more people for him to keep tabs on. 'ۢ He lives for his daily 1-hour walks, and really does need someone willing to get out with him at least once a day. (Two walks a day-morning and afternoon-would serve him even better.) 'ۢ He is very people-friendly and loves everyone he meets. He fawns on attention and being petted and talked to, so a home with time to do that would be a given. 'ۢ He seems actually indifferent to other dogs, and when approached by them, tends to ignore them. I think he would do fine in a home with another dog, especially a dog his age or older (his first adopters reported that their young dog pestered him). 'ۢ He has shown only mild interest in cats, so might do well with a house cat. 'ۢ He is very well-mannered in the house-respectful of my things, and house trained. 'ۢ He is crate-trained (but prefers not to be confined). I crate him when I leave the house (no more than 1 hour), but no longer crate him at night. He sleeps in a dog bed beside mine, and doesn't move all night. 'ۢ He is very quiet. He does not bark (or howl or bay) at visitors, passersby, cats, or dogs, or when in the yard. 'ۢ He knows some basic commands: sit, off, stay (in progress), come, and wait. He also knows: outside, walk, and din-din. 'ۢ He rides well in the car (once you convince him he has to stay in the back), and does reasonably well on a lead (see below). 'ۢ He has a wonderful appetite, and will happily eat any food you give him-even meds! Potential issues: 'ۢ He is a velcro dog, and follows me everywhere like a shadow. While some people would appreciate this, others would be annoyed by it. Someone looking for a constant companion would do well with him. He will stick like glue to his human (a good trait for a service dog)! (This may change over time as he gets more comfortable in his new home.) 'ۢ He needs to urinate frequently, which means lots of trips to the backyard. To manage this, he needs someone home during the day, and a fenced back yard. A doggie door would make things easier. (NOTE: He is urinating somewhat less than those first few weeks, so maybe over time, this will dissipate.) 'ۢ He is an incorrigible humper-it's really ingrained in him. It happens when he's excited, like during play, or when he's greeting someone-and he won't stop (it's almost as if he can't control it). I've worked hard on this, and he is much better with me now. If I hold up one finger and say 'Eh!' when he's about to start in, he does back off. I can also distract him with a toy to stop the behavior. Still, his new family will need to continue consistent training to solve this problem. I would not recommend a home with young children, solely based on this behavior. 'ۢ He pulls on the lead, sometimes hard (though, for a Beagle, he's overall reasonable on a lead). He now wears a 'no-pull' harness (the manufacturer never met Frankie!), but once he picks up a scent trail, the pulling begins. I'm working with a martingale collar now, and that seems to be working better. He new owner needs a strong arm and the weight to counterbalance 45 lbs. of Beagle force. 'ۢ He has shown mild separation anxiety, like whimpering at the bathroom door or whining at the back door when he can't see me. I crate him when I leave the house, and I can hear him interm (Less)

Very affectionate, but not interested in toddlers and the chaos that accompanies them. Has never bitten. Has snarled when the kids bother him. Will be your best friend if you pet him and give him a treat. Loves to go for walks. Currently lives with his chihuahua brother, who is also up for adoption. It would be great for them to go together, but it is not completely necessary.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in Ohio
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in Ohio if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
