Animal ID: BRL-0543Benny (male)

Beagle    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Benny is a 6 yo handsome, active, and affectionate beagle boy. He is so typical that he has some common beagle puppy traits...being mouthy when he plays, chewing on the occasional inappropriate items, etc. Benny loves to play and he loves to snuggle. :) He is house- and crate-trained and will willingly spend quiet time in his crate, even when his human family is home. In addition to playing, Benny enjoys his snuggle time and will usually just melt for a belly- and or ear-rub, although if he is feeling playful he will try to turn it into a game. He will also bring a rope or other toy to initiate a game of tug when he is feeling playful, ... (Read More)too. To date Benny has had little interest in the resident cats, and he has gotten along well with dogs of all ages and sizes. He would do well as an only dog as well provided his adopters insure that he gets enough exercise! The biggest difference between Benny and a typical beagle (if there is such a thing) is that he MUST sleep crated. Benny has a sleep-disorder called RBD (REM-Sleep Behavior Disorder) that causes him to have episodes where he snaps, growls and lunges and anybody (or any dog) in the vicinity may be in his way at this time and end up being bitten. Benny is NOT AWAKE during these episodes (despite what it looks like) and THIS IS NOT A BEHAVIORAL OR TRAINING PROBLEM!! He is not awake and does not have conscious control during these episodes - he is truly asleep. If awoken during an incident, Benny will simply look around, curl back up and go right back to sleep. In his foster home he usually has one or two episodes a night, although he has had more some nights, usually following excessive stimulation. This is quite manageable in a vigilant household. You just need to make sure that Benny sleeps in a crate! :) To review our adoption process and submit an application, please visit: beaglerescueleague.org/adoption (Less)

Beagle    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Welcome to 1.5 yo Snap, the 2016 recipient of the KC Mainardi Memorial Fund (http://www.beaglerescueleague.org/help/kc). He is an adorable, friendly and social little beagle who needed to find a new home due to his owner's new living arrangements (moved in with relatives who lease did not allow pets). Snap also appears to have separation anxiety, so we are looking for a home for him where someone is home a good portion of the day to help him, and/or someone experienced having a dog with separation anxiety. Snap formerly spent his days at a doggy day care, and they loved him there. Someone with the financial means to offer this to Snap would ... (Read More)be ideal. Snap is a typical high energy young beagle, so a fenced in yard and/or another beagle in the home would be ideal. Snap loves other dogs and is being fostered in Central NJ.     Meet Daisy! This little flower will surely brighten your day. Daisy is a 5 year young Lab to Leash retiree. She has a wonderful personality, loves to snuggle, and has a nose worthy of any hound. She keeps her crate clean, but will need continued patience and work with her housebreaking. A fenced in yard would likely be best for her since she does not void while on leash. She loves to play, so she'll make a great addition for a family with another dog, however she loves her one on one time and wouldn't mind having all the attention, either. Beagle Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Oakley is 5-yrs. 4-mos. old. He successfully completed a 4-week Obedience Class in Oct. 2016, but like any type of training, regular practice and reinforcement are key in retention. Oakley is treat motivated, so he picks up on commands rather quickly. He has quite the personality and LOVES to play with toys of any kind, but squeakers are his favorite. He also thinks he's a lap dog and loves to snuggle. So, if you don't mind a little up close and personal 'Oakley love' at the end of the day, he's the dog for you. Oakley is an exceptionally affectionate dog to all of the people that he knows and trusts, but his trust comes with time. ... (Read More)He IS selective, but that's only because he yearns for long-term stability and commitment, and wants to be certain of who will make him feel safe. Because he has been in and out of a few different homes in his lifetime, he needs the feeling of security. Patience in letting him get to know you and accept you is its own reward. Oakley needs to be in a home where there are no children under age 15. As for other dogs, he has a few yard mates at the Shelter, but is also selective in his dog friends. He does not take to strangers, so a quiet home would be ideal. (Less)

Beagle    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sweet little Coal came to us from a pound in Georgia. His owner dumped him because he wouldn't hunt anymore. Getting dumped turned out to be a good thing; he was not treated well by his former owner, and he had a hernia and several rotten teeth. He is now neutered, the hernia repaired, the rotten teeth pulled and the rest cleaned. He's UTD on shots and tested negative for heartworms and Lyme disease. Coal is a smaller beagle, short in the body, short in the legs and weighing under 25 lbs. He's approx 9 years old but has the energy of a younger dog. He is in a foster home and gets along wonderfully with other the dogs there. He loves to ... (Read More)cuddle with other dogs and he's learning to cuddle with his foster mom. Coal is very interested in the cats that are in another room and might chase a cat if it ran, but when he encounters one face-to-face he's fine.     Penny is almost 4 years hold, and was released to our Lab to Leash program after helping some future vets, vet techs, and animal care workers, learn about basic routine veterinary care and training. She is a total sweetheart and is a typical beagle who loves to run around and play in the yard, and then cuddle up at night. Penny is cratetrained and is working on her housetraining.     Bailey is a 6 year old shepherd/beagle mix (Best guess, she was a rescue from Arkansas). She weighs ~80lbs. We've had a few instances where she has become aggressive toward our other pets (1 dog, and 1 cat) when they were throwing up. Something triggers Bailey to attack the other animals. I've listed that she's not good with other dogs, cats, or kids. She has never shown aggression toward our kids (we have a 19 month old and a 3 month old), but we also don't want to find out the hard way that the kids are also susceptible to this behavior. Animal ID: BRL 0538Peanut (male)

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

OK- you got us. Peanut is not a purebred beagle. BUT, he is a research hero and we brought him into our Lab to Leash Division after he helped researchers and veterinarians make important advances in parasitology. We did a DNA analysis of Peanut, and his results came back as 37.5% beagle, 25% German Shorthaired Pointed, 12% English Spring Spaniel, 12% Portuguese Water Dog (??!) and 12% mixed hound. The one thing all of those breeds are is: friendly, and that describes Peanut to a tee! Peanut is 3 years old and just wants to please you. He LOVES toys, so they must be in abundance in his adoptive home! The other breeds mixed in with the beagle ... (Read More)resulted in a dog who LOVES to fetch! Peanut struggles a little bit with understanding the social cues of other dogs, so we recommend placing him as an only pet. He does fine with some dogs, and he just seems to really annoy others! Peanut is a curious dog and with a Sporting and Hound background, he does have a strong prey drive, so although he does not want or try to hurt the cats in his house, his instinct is to chase, so we suggest no cats in the home at all. Peanut would do best with experienced dog owners who have the time to help him with his housetraining. Since he wants to please and is food motivated, training will go well with the right adopter! We would love to see Peanut with an active adopter who will take him on walks, and introduce him to the world. Peanut loves every person he has met and has an excitement and zest for life that should match that of his adopter! Animal ID: BRL 0507Noel (female)

Beagle    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs
Personality: Low Energy
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Noel is a 4 yo old sweetie who was released to our Lab to Leash Division after weaning her puppies. She is a mellow little beagle who would do best in a quiet home with a fenced in yard. Noel can be questionable sharing her living space with other animals, so unless she is adopted with her current foster-mate, Angel, we would recommend that she be placed as an only pet. She is cratetrained and housetrained to a schedule. She is hesitant in new environments and will need a patient family to go slow and let her settle in at her own pace. She will fit in best with a couple that stays in at night and will cuddle with her on the couch vs. a ... Animal ID: BRL 501Angel (female)

Beagle    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Low Energy
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Angel is a 4 yo sweet soul with deep brown eyes. She was released to our Lab to Leash Division after having her puppies, and she is ready to enjoy her retirement. Angel is a mellow, quiet and shy beagle. We feel she would be most comfortable with another calm beagle to keep her company. Her foster-mate, Noel, would be ideal since they have been together for some time and even share a crate together at night. An adopter looking to welcome these two together would be amazing. A very active home is not the right one for Angel, and one with young kids running around would be too much for her. Angel would love to be held and snuggled all day. ... (Read More)A fenced in yard will be needed since Angel is not a fan of walking outside, and does not void while on leash. Angel is crate trained and is working on her housetraining.     Jill is a lovely Beagle girl who was adopted about four years ago, and has lived happily with her owners ever since. Unfortunately, family circumstances are forcing a move to housing where dogs aren't allowed ... so Jill is looking for a new place to hang her leash. Now about 6 years old, her 'mom' says 'Jill would do very well with an older couple with no small children around, as she's not a fan of little humans. With adults, however, she is very, very affectionate and loves to cuddle. She loves to run outside and chase the squirrels, but has never left the property even when's she's gotten out of the gate. PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in Pennsylvania
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in Pennsylvania if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
