Rescue Me ID: 17-10-13-00212SHARLIE (female)

Beagle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

This dog is a one year old beagle/pit mix who came in with her mother. They were adopted together but Sharlie got anxious and bit a child. Here at the shelter, she is desperate for attention but fearful when confined to her kennel. She used to be playful, happy, and carefree when her mom was here with her. Now she needs that odd combination of calm surroundings with ample opportunity for vigorous outdoor play. Are you the right person for this young girl? We are a small shelter located in rural PA; closest city is Pittsburgh. Please Map It before you contact us. We require a meet and greet with any other dogs in the home, check ... Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

WALLY was found as a stray so we aren't sure about age but he does appear to be young--maybe 3 years old. He is very gentle and friendly and will put his paws up to get attention from people. Very handsome too! We are a small shelter located in rural PA; closest city is Pittsburgh. Please Map It before you contact us. Rescue Me ID: 17-10-08-00014Daisy Mae (female)

Beagle    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Daisy is a sweet dog that I took in to keep out of the shelter. She is not good with other dogs and is sometimes ok with kids. I wouldn't have her around kids younger than 15. She seems to have been abused in her previous home by someone in a hat since she was afraid of me in my hat at first. She needs lots of room to run but is a very small beagle. She is up to date on her rabies but I don't know about the rest of her shots. She came with a rabies tag. She is also a resource guarder. I prefer her to go to someone that can handle a dog that needs time, patience, and lots of love and understanding.

Personality: Very High Energy, Submissive
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Fearful/Anxious

Peanut has been living in the same small cage as his mother (Cookie) for the last 5 years. Cookie passed away on September 11, from cancer that had spread to her muscles. She suffered for a long time and her owners did nothing to help her. Peanut has been locked up his whole life, he is not potty- trained, he is a very active beagle and cannot be around cats. All he needs is love, attention, and patience. Please email Socalanimalleague@gmail.com if you are interested in fostering or adopting Peanut. We need your help to find Peanut a home and get him out of the horrible conditions he has been enduring for the last 5 years. Please check ... Beagle Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Happy Jack spent his entire life back in the woods, chained to a log, with only a crappy old dog box, and dirty food and water dishes. When the owner died, he was rescued along with many others. We call him Happy Jack, because he dances when you talk to him. He is very shy at first but he wants to be loved. He is neutered, current on all shots. He tested positive for Lyme but has been treated. Good with other dogs but no cats, please.

Ruffio is an older adult beagle boy at 7 plus. He is very timid at first but once he warms up, all he wants is a lap to curl up on. He is good with other dogs, children, and cats. He is probably not house trained as he appears to have been a hunting dog.

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

A dog as gentle, sweet, and loving as Marlee would be hard to find. She's the best cuddle-dog ever. She also walks nicely on lead, and is crate-trained and house trained. And Marlee is the perfect hiking buddy--off-lead, she stays near her person and comes when called. Marlee is approx. 4 years old, spayed, and UTD on shots. She tested negative for heartworms and Lyme. She is on HW preventative in her foster home. Marlee needs a 6' fence. She climbs right over a 5' wire or chain link. Also, while she is very loving with people she knows, she is afraid of strangers, particularly (it seems) men. It takes only a little while, though, for her to ... (Read More)trust and love. No small children or cats. Marlee loves to chase cats. She doesn't hurt them, but she is a terrier, so probably shouldn't be left alone with them. She gets along well with other dogs.     I'm HARPER, a 4-year-old, 40 lb, female Beagle/Lab mix. See how my forehead wrinkles up? That happens when I'm thinking, and I've been doing a lot of that lately. I've been thinking (daydreaming, really) about my new home where folks will love me and care for me. I think about how proud my new humans will be of me. Maybe I'd have other dogs to play with! I dream of showing my humans how I'm friendly but how I'm happy to be by myself as well. I dream about going on walks, snuggling down in a doggie bed of my own, and watching out the window for the mailman. I'm housebroken and someone said I might even be a good companion for seniors. Can you ... (Read More)make my dreams a reality? If so, please come get me. I'm thinking about you. I'm HARPER. HARPER is spayed, heartworm negative and up to date on age appropriate vaccines.     Scout is absolutely adorable. He is a tiny little man, weighing in at 14 lbs. He is said to be six years old, abandoned at the side of the road with his buddy Gus. He is from Kentucky. Sadly this man is HEARTWORM POSITIVE. He will be treated with monthly preventative, slow kill method since he is not symptomatic. Beagle Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Sweet Scarlette was rescued from a hoarding case in Kentucky when her elderly owner passed away. She lived there in horrible conditions along with more than 25 other dogs. The vet thinks she is about 10 years old, but this sweet, gentle gal still has a lot of love to give! She gets along well with other dogs and with cats, too. Although she weighs around 45 lbs., she feels like a smaller dog. Scarlette is completely house trained and easy to walk on a leash (another dog helps to get her going in the right direction). She's a very dog and a wonderful addition to a family. Older kids would probably be better although she's gentle younger ... (Read More)children might make her more nervous. Beagle    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Snap is a 2 yo beagle who is the 2016 recipient of the KC Mainardi Memorial Fund (http://www.beaglerescueleague.org/help/kc). He is an adorable, friendly and social little beagle who needed to find a new home due to his owner's new living arrangements (moved in with relatives who lease did not allow pets). It was discovered that Snap also has significant separation anxiety, so we are looking for a home for him where someone is home a good portion of the day to help him, and/or someone experienced having a dog with separation anxiety. His previous owner took him to doggy day care daily so that Snap was not home alone. We tried the usual ... (Read More)natural approaches to help ease separation anxiety with no success, so Snap was started on anti-anxiety medication and is doing well on it. That being said, his separation anxiety will worsen markedly when he is placed in a new home, so adopters would need to understand that, work with him possible with a trainer, and continue his medication for several months at least post-adoption. Snap is a typical high energy young beagle, so a fenced in yard is a necessity, and we think he really does need other dogs in the home. He loves other dogs, and they can help keep him company. Snap has been good with cats as well. Our adoption process, requirements and application are here: www.beaglerescueleague.org/adoption (Less)

Animal ID: BRL-0533Penny (female)

Beagle    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Penny is 4 years old, and was released to our Lab to Leash program after helping some future vets, vet techs, and animal care workers, learn about basic routine veterinary care and training. She is a total sweetheart and is a typical beagle who loves to run around and play in the yard, and then cuddle up at night. She can be overly submissive at times, so patient adopters (and no small children) would be best for her. Penny is a vocal beagle so apartment dwellers need to apply! She is cratetrained and is working on her housetraining. She is used to voiding in a fenced in yard, so that is her best option in a forever home. She gets along ... (Read More)well with her buddy Gretchen (currently available through BRL), and 'some' other dogs. She can be selective with which other canines and felines she likes, though, and we'd probably place her as an only dog, or with Gretchen, before placing her in a home with other dogs and/or cats. Penny loves to be held and snuggled and would love a more mellow family to be her forever home! Being able to get all of the snuggles will be Penny's dream come true! PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in Pennsylvania
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in Pennsylvania if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
