Rescue Me ID: 17-07-15-00468Huckabee (male)

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Date into Rescue: 5/26/2017 Reason for being in rescue: found as stray Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Huckabee has heartworms. He will be sent home with 12 months of heartworm preventative. This is called the slow kill method . Please check with your veterinarian before adopting a dog with heartworms. Weight: 24.3 lbs Height: est 20' at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? Huckabee is looking for a family with a lot of experience in taking care of dogs. A typical hound, Huckabee has a strong personality and a desire to shape a really nice basic ... (Read More)personality into a wonderful dog. Huckabee is bright - and bright kids need loving structure or they will take advantage of you. What is my personality like? Huckabee is a sweet lovable boy but he's definitely a strong personality. For example, he walks on a leash, but he likes to lead. He is intent on going where he wants. He is also good at slipping between feet and through gates. That can be dangerous and he needs to be taught to respect boundaries. He has spent time playing with dogs much larger than he is and did well. He loves the freedom of a fenced in yard to run and play in. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly and inquisitive. More tips and tidbits: When introduced to a new group of dogs and a new area of our farm he had not been to in the past, he enjoyed the stimulation of a new environment, smelling new smells and marking his territory. So far, we've introduced Huckabee to a kitten who is not very active yet as she is too young . Our caregiver could not make a good call on whether he would be good with cats based on this one encounter. He wasn't aggressive, but at that point he was overwhelmed by seeing new dogs and new smells and a new place. He was busy taking it ALL in. He'll need to be cat tested again if a cat owning home is interested. The boy is a good guy. But he is young and very active. He can't focus on one on one time. His mind and body are going in many different directions. He's a cutie and he needs some work *as most young dogs do) but he has a great disposition and that you can't teach. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. I would love a home with a lot of playtime! I'm all puppy and I spend a majority of my time with my rope toy in my mouth! I need someone who can give me walks and we can go on lots of fun trips! What is my personality like? Sweet and playful! I ... (Read More)love people and toys are so cool! I like to roll on my back and play tug-of-war. My caregivers usually find me trying to play with somebody outside or rolling in the grass. I am a ham for the camera as well! How do I act when I first meet new people? Sweet but more interested in the toy I'm playing with haha More tips and tidbits: We've yet to find someone he does not like. This is a people puppy. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: Estimated birth date 2/7/2017 PUPPY POLICY: ~~Thank you for considering adding a puppy to your family. Puppies can be a joyous experience but they can also be a tremendous amount of work. You need to be prepared for that work. Because our goal is to place each of our dogs in forever homes, we are especially cautious where we put puppies. Our ideal puppy adopters are: *experienced dog owners with a solid record of excellent vet care of their previous pets *be scheduled away from home for no more than 4 hours per day *and for those gone 4 hours per day have another canine companion in the home *be stay at home type of people (work at home, home schoolers, retired, etc) If you fit this criteria, please apply for this puppy. If you do not fit this criteria, we strongly encourage you to look at our adoptable adult dogs. The number one misconception that we hear routinely from new dog owners is that they want a puppy because they do not think they can handle correcting past bad behaviors or resolving baggage. Not every adoptable rescue dog carries such baggage. Many adult dogs are well bred, well trained dogs who have lost their families through no fault of their own. The second misconception we hear is that adult dogs can not bond with a new family. This again is not a true statement. Adult dogs are ready and eager to give you their love. In return, you get a family pet that is a known quantity, known size and shape and color and ready to start on the new adventure, their life with you. Lastly, training a puppy correctly is a tremendous commitment of time and energy. This is why we ask the puppy seeker have more time at home than the average working family. Puppies are gregarious and social creatures who crave attention and positive direction. You need the extra time to do it right.~~ Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina. My age: 2 years old, est birthdate 3/11/2014 Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. You can also read our adoption tips page for hints and helps on adopting a rescued dog. http://www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/AdoptionTips.shtml or for general information on Carolina Poodle Rescue, please visit our FAQs - http://www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/FAQGeneral.shtml (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in South Carolina
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in South Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
