Rescue Me ID: 16-08-30-00351Pygmy (female)

Beagle Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Pygmy is spayed, housebroken, and knows basic commands: sit, stay (better inside than outside), down, and shake. For a dog who loves to shake, she hates to have her paws touched and nails trimmed. She has had this quirk since she was a puppy and does need to be muzzled when having her nails cut at the vet. She does very well with teenagers and beyond - she is gentle with people who are older and has been very sweet around the several people she has met in wheelchairs. She is house trained, but we do still crate her when we will be gone for long periods of time (over 6 hrs.) because she does have the occasional accident and destroys the ... (Read More)odd pillow when she's bored. She is a garbage sneak, and also loves eating dirty underwear. She is very healthy! Her teeth are softer/porous (according to our vet) so they are very stained, but in generally good condition. She has had several back teeth removed because of cracks, but the rest are in great condition. She is in good health, a tad on the overweight side. She has several fatty tumors, but none bother her and none our vet is concerned about. She farts. All. The. Time. We allow our pets on our furniture, so she is all about jumping up on the couch and snuggling on or right next to people. She does very well meeting strangers and other dogs, but dogs quite a bit bigger than her do scare her and she takes a while to warm up to them. She also prefers older dogs, as puppies / younger dogs are just too rambunctious for her anymore. She does still love to run and tumble around with our other dog who is much bigger than her, but they grew up together. She weighs 35-40 lbs. She is very good around cats; she will chase them a little, but has never hurt one. We have an older (9 y/o) cat and a kitten (6 m/o) and she does very well with them. She is not a fan of people in uniform, especially the mail man - she even recognizes all of the various mail trucks and will bark at them. She does bark when people come up to our door. While she is protective of our house when people are on the outside, once they come in the door she is fine. She barks to let them know she is there, but is equally as excited that there is another human who may give her food or a treat. After a minute or so she calms down and just wants to give everyone kisses. She travels well, loves cars and trips. We are on the road at least once a month visiting family, and she is always with us. Pygmy is an amazing dog and a loving, loyal pet. She cannot go to a home with small children. She is very stressed around our 15 month old, and has avoided older children in the past. (Less)

We brought Clyde home from the shelter where we were told he and Bonnie along with a few others they've not caught yet, were allegedly turned out by their owner. They either don't hunt anymore or he just didn't want to deal with them anymore. Oh my goodnes, Clyde is the sweetest little old man I've every met. I'm sure he has some health issues as Bonnie did when she went to the vet on Friday. Clyde goes next week for his check up and am sure at the very least he will be lymes positive like Bonnie. He was covered in ticks when he came in, and who knows how long he's been on his own. We will get him back in shape and put a little needed weight ... (Read More)on this 15 to 18 pound boy. Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I have a 7 year old beagle mix that I need some assistance and advice on what I can do in finding him a new home. His name is Tango. He is a great guy for an adult household with no kids and no other dogs. We rescued him as a puppy, but recently he has become aggressive towards my 15 year old daughter and my other dog Charlie, a 90 lb boxer mix, when either of them get uncomfortably close to him face to face. Tango bit Charlie on several occasions and has now had 2 bite instances with my daughter. The most recent instance required several stitches to her upper lip. She bent down to scratch her foot, apparently too close to Tango's face, and ... (Read More)he bit her lip. If I lived alone, I would have no problem keeping him. Tango and I have become greater friends since the loss of Charlie in January from cancer. However, I cannot risk having another accidental incident. He is up to date on shots and neutered. He is also housebroken. What do I do? Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Beagle in West Virginia
Beagle Dogs can make good pets in West Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. Beagles are small, energetic hounds with sweet, happy dispositions. Beagles make wonderful family pets. Beagles need to be with people and do not like to be left alone; it is a good idea to have more than one dog if you will be away often. Beagles are great with children but do not do well with cats and other household animals unless they are around them from the time they are puppies. A Beagle needs a decent sized yard to play in and needs lots of exercise. Beagles may wander off easily if not kept on a leash.
